He was very lucky to avoid it last season after that Man City capitulation off the back of a terrible run.

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
As lovely as it sounds I think we have a better chance of finishing top four than we do of winning a domestic cup. Maybe the Europa Conference.WoodvaleOne wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 11:01 pm Appreciate the post is about Premiership placings but we should go all out in the cups. Win one of those and we guaranteed European football yet again plus a lot of happy punters.
We won't get near the Champions League spots nor will we get relegated. So concentrate on the cups.
Of the last 50 combined FA & League cups the winners have been....
Chelsea - 10
Man City - 8
Arsenal - 8
Liverpool - 7
Man Utd - 7
Spurs - 2
Leicester - 2
Portsmouth - 1
Wigan - 1
Swansea - 1
Birmingham - 1
Blackburn - 1
Middlesborough - 1
40 of the 50 winners from five clubs.

I’m baffled that CFC loaned out Lukaku. Whatever happened to coaching/management?

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
I'd be interested to know who people see as our main threats next time round. I reckon last season we were over the whole period probably the 6th best. Better than Man United overall but, because we basically gifted them 4 points with a missed penalty at the LS and Fredericks gifting them a last kick winner at OT, finishing behind them. But apart from the usual half dozen big boys who will threaten our position as best of the rest ? Newcastle ? Seem to have bought well but without really adding that little bit of star quality needed to really push on. Aston Villa ? Will be a threat but are they better than us ? Brighton ? Dark horses but losing Bissouma, and if rumours are to be believed Cucurella, will harm them imo.
At the wrong end Fulham will probably have learned from their last time round. And if Mitrovic gets the service he should get the goals to keep them out of danger. Some player that imo. Don't see any hope for Bournemouth and Forest who imo will be next season's Watford and Norwich. Absolutely nothing in either team to see them doing anything but struggling. So who will join them. I'd love to think it will be Everton but with the thinking head on I'm going to take a punt and say it will be goodbye Southampton after a longish spell in the top division.
Dependant on results this post will self destruct around late April next year if necessary to avoid it being resurrected and embarrassing me at a later stage.

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
if only puff ! would be fantastic to get in the CL. but I will take 6th and the farmers league cup . as long as we buy 6 quality players then we could be set for a good few years inside the top 6 . hopefully we will break through one season and get the CL place. would be spine chilling to hear the CL music at the full bowl on euro nights !
one can but hope !

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
I think people having us in the top 6 is extremely generous considering the amount of work that needs doing to the squad.
Ask me in August but if it’s right now, no way.

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
Brighton offloaded White and Burn last year and will probably sell Cucerella and Bissouma this year. Yet they seem to improve with each sale.
I suspect that Potter may soon end up managing England.

I just don't think he'll want to take the step down though.

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
No way am I guessing the whole league.
If we go deep in more than 1 cup competition then 7th-10th. If not then 5th-7th.
Also, Sporting Index's points spread of 50.5-51.5 for us is a definite buy.

Re: How Do You See The League Shaping Up?
I kind of have a rough idea of how I think every team will do in the Premier League next season, other than 3 teams:
- Chelsea: because of the turmoil over their takeover, the fact they have lost some players, and I am not entirely convinced it’s a happy camp.
- Brighton: They’ve sold 1 key player and are potentially about to lose another. It depends on which signings they make.
- West Ham: How we do next season depends on 3 things for me. 1) whether we add more balance to the squad this transfer window. 2) If we add more quality to the defensive end of the team. And I am talking Zouma standard quality. And 3) Moyes’ loyalty towards certain players.
There were at least 2 players who were incredibly lucky not to be dropped from the starting 11 in the League towards the end of last season. The most baffling of the lot had to be Cresswell starting just 2/3 days after his sending off against Frankfurt. If we can’t beat Norwich City without Aaron bleeding Cresswell then we have got some problems! And this is coming from someone who likes Cresswell!
If we have a more balanced squad next season, add better quality to the defensive positions, and don’t persevere with players no matter how many mistakes or bad performances they deliver then I absolutely believe we can finish in the top 7 again.
Failure to do so, then I expect a mid table finish.
