50 this year
Like Elsie, these albums are 50 this year....
.
I think I've listened to 3, maybe 4.
Most of the rest are on the "no bloody thank you" pile. Like Elsie.
See something you like?

Re: 50 this year
Roxy, Mott, Deep Purple, Tull (really dated though) and Sabbath.
Sounds like a letter to Alan Freeman's Saturday Rock Show: "...and Nigel from Wigan writes; Dear Fluff, more Quo, more Sabbath, more ELP" etc!

Floyd, Sabbath, Ziggy, BOC, one of the Heeps, one of the Purples still hold up - not a big fan of the rest.

Re: 50 this year
not so fast
there's some pucker albums on there.
maybe not all of them are solid all throughout but there's some excellent songs on there for sure.
Mona Lisas and Madhatters, Hercules
Angel, You Wear It Well, I'd Rather Go Blind
Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take It Easy
Suffragette City, Rock'n'Roll Suicide
Metal Guru, Main Man
won't go through a lot of them, and to be honest there's loads on there that are really not my cup of tea.
but for some it's actually what they did to and for the "music scene" at that time and how they influenced bands to come or actually morphed into something better.

About a handful …
Stevie Wonder
Lou Reed
Roxy Music
David Bowie
T Rex
I think I might give The Doobie Brothers a go.

I've listened to most of those tbh. The best ones imho (in no order other than how they have been presented above) would be:
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St.
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill
Elton John - Honky Château
T Rex - The Slider
Roxy Music - Roxy Music
Chuck Berry - The London Chuck Berry
War - The World is a Ghetto
Grand Funk Railroad - Phoenix
Santana - Caravanserai
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Clear Spot
Blue Öyster Cult -Blue Öyster Cult
Black Sabbath - Vol. 4
All good stuff there.

Re: 50 this year
Talking Book is a banger.
Al Green released Let's Stay Together which is an all time classic.
Bill Withers - Still Bill
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly
Not a bad year

in all honesty I've probably never even heard one of the bands (if I can use that word) that you post about...Korea Hammer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 4:22 pm I've only heard the Bowie album from that list, that I'm aware of.

Re: 50 this year
You can, but that might say as much about you as it does about me. A quick scan of my May posts in this forum include The Go-Betweens, Loop, Ultra Vivid Scene, William Basinski, The Jasmine Minks, Keith Hudson, Half Man Half Biscuit, The Wolfhounds, Magnolia Electric Co. and Kristin Hersh. None of those are what you might call obscure and some of them are widely-known.Cuenca 'ammer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 10:41 pm in all honesty I've probably never even heard one of the bands (if I can use that word) that you post about...

heard of Half Man Half Biscuit about plus 30 years ago.
that's it.
and all it says about me is that I like different music from you. as for obscure, it depends on your outlook, that lot you have listed are about as obscure to me as probably 99% of the albums on the 50 year list are for you as you said you've only ever heard one of them.
it's not a knock, just that different people have widely different tastes. and that's fine.
last couple of weeks I had a listen to the new Tears For Fears album. not bad. probably not your cup of tea either. but I have no problem with that at all.
