I would think it depends on how closely you follow Swiss football. They're quite a reputable side who have had more than a few european campaigns.

It is one of the most successful club in Switzerland, but they faced major financial problems in the last two decades. They went bankrupt and spent several years in lower leagues. It is only in the last 3 years that they are back to the top 5 in Swiss. They have quality young players, normally.

Re: West Ham United v Servette FC: match thread
Not sure they are one of Switzerland's 'best know' teams anymore in all honesty. For the younger KUMBer teams such as Young Boys, Basel, Zurich and Grasshopper are all far better 'known'.WestHamLyallStyle wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 12:24 pm They are based in Geneva and one of Switzerland's best known clubs.
So, yeah, it's just you.
Servette were a traditional powerhouse in Switzerland and for us 'older lot' it was always either them or Grasshoppers for the title. They hit financial trouble in 1998 and were sent down the the 3rd tier. Since then it has been a bit of a slog for them but they are slowly coming back into contention, finished 6th in a 10 team Super League last season, so just below mid table.
The Leeds United of Switzerland if you like. Young Boys, Basel, Zurich and Grasshoppers are all better know in recent years. This is the kind of team we could face in our Europa Conference League play off game.
They have a decent little 30k seater stadium and they wear all claret with blue and/or white trim too.
Re: West Ham United v Servette FC: match thread
The new stadium is nice, 30k all seater, but they only get gates of about 8-12k each week
The old stadium at Charmilles was an old fashioned 20-25k single tier stands with terracing behind the goals. They used to have decent crowds before it become all seater.
Just to be pedantic - it's not on the lake, and it isn't on a slope.
I'm going to wander down there in Friday - it's only a couple of miles from where I live and tickets are on sale one hour before kick off for Frs 10 (about GBP 8)
Weather is a bit stormy at the moment, but should be bright and sunny on Friday.

Playing against Servette should be food and drink to Moyes.

Apparently, Gaël Clichy extended his contract with Servette for an additional year. That will make at least one familiar face.

Anyone know if you are able to watch this 'after the event' on YouTube or is it only live? Struggling to be home in time for it.
