You can chortle all you want thousands of miles away but a trump presidency unleashes a whole heap of **** on immigrant & non white communities in the US. Trucks with massive trump flags patrolling through immigrant neighbourhoods. trump supporters now feeling like its ok to tell brown kids to go back to where they came from, people in maga gear constantly trying to provoke fights because they're emboldened in their prejudices. And so on & so on.

So no, I won't lighten up at your wanting trump back comments so you can be amused.

Sounds like an absolute nightmare - I promise never to joke about wanting Trump back ever again . :newthumb:

Have you thought about coming back to the UK if it's that bad over there ?

Biden launches re-election campaign
...............

Mr Biden has long signalled that he planned to stand for re-election with the main question being when he would announce. After spending the weekend with aides at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, he opted to launch his campaign on the fourth anniversary of his 2020 announcement.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a senior White House adviser, will serve as his campaign manager.

As yet Mr Biden has no major challengers for the Democratic nomination meaning a smooth path to the candidacy is almost certain.

But recent polls suggest his decision to run is a divisive one both within the party and nationally. An NBC News poll over the weekend found that 70% of Americans, and just over half of Democrats, believe he should not run again.

A majority of people who said Mr Biden should not run cited his age as a concern. Forty-eight percent said it was a "major concern".

Is it a bit disconcerting that the Democrats wont/cant put up someone to challenge him? Is he really the only viable candidate? Surely there must be a Kennedy or two still knocking around?

So just stick the homeless in a camp. People like ex soldiers with mental health issues etc. Out of sight out of mind.

Ok then.

Maybe we can get an AI President & a couple of AI parties that actually do stuff rather than squabble about nonsense divisive issues.

It'd end in tears.

The AI's would at first argue with each other along coding lines, before realising that they both have a common enemy. Namely us.

And in the spirit of an enemy of your enemy is your friend, welcome to Armageddon.

This is rough. For all the faults of our system, at least the system seems to encourage an influx of "younger" blood into the two parliamentary parties every few years.

Does that mean yes NEVER been a candidate from the 1950s?

That would be ironic considering that's the mythical decade half of America wants to take us back to.

Looks like Ron Desantis is going to announce his candidacy tomorrow live on Twitter during a chat with Elon Musk.

It would be hilarious is Musk was his running mate further down the line. I'm not sure if Musk owning Twitter would be a problem with an ethics board etc.

I do actually believe that if Desantis overcomes trump & the rest of the Republicans he would beat Biden.

But if trump wins the nomination Biden beats him.

Only trump supporters like trump. Whereas I think many in America would give Desantis a chance based on the fact that he's not trump or Biden.

But what do I know.....?

Isn’t Trump a massive favourite for the Republican nomination?

All I know about the next election is that I am finally switching from being a Democrat to an Independent. I've had enough of both of these parties.

Does an independent stand anything more than a snowflake’s hope in hell in your state?

Does that mean anything though?

Biden was last among Democrats in 2020 but ended ended up winning.

trump was a laughing stock in 2016 (Jeb Bush was favourite) . trump won.

No one had heard of Obama in 2008. Hillary was a massive favourite.

The last 3 presidents weren't even expected to win their party's nominations.

Maybe someone new will appear...

Being an independent doesn't mean that I only vote for independent candidates, it means that I won't exclusively vote Republican or Democrat candidates or platforms, not that I ever have. Technically a NPP votes the issues rather than along party lines. In that sense I've always been NPP. More specifically for me it means I'm not donating funds anymore, and that I do not wish to be affiliated with any party anymore.

Polls this far out are basically meaningless. They have almost no predictive power, because no one who is undecided has thought seriously about how they'll vote, plus events can completely change the world in 18 months.

No disrespect Pete, but we should ALL be independent when it comes to every election, shouldn't we?
