Re: The Sack Race 2022/2023
do we know for sure that GSB will be appointing a new manager, should the position become vacant, or if it's going to be Kretinsky (sp ?)
if it's the former, we might expect a "safe" pair of hands were they to bin off Moyes.
if the other bloke, then why wouldn't he go for a "big" name, Shirley he has a notion of who they may be, it's not like he isn't already vested in a European football club is it ? wouldn't he have people who are looking into these things ? after all he does have his own people on the board doesn't he ? and if the reported "take over" is to be finalised next year, then again, Shirley he'll have at least a veto if nothing else ?
of course it's not me, but were it, I bloody well know I'd want a huge say in whoever comes in next if it's my money that's going to pay him for however long the contract might be.
of am I trying to make too much sense of it all...???

Re: The Sack Race 2022/2023
Surely Pochettino is waiting for a club that can offer him Champions League? I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Real Madrid one day.
I’ve just looked at Villas-Boas’ record. He doesn’t seem to last 18 months anywhere. Ever. China and Russia were hardly logical career moves for an ambitious manager.
Can I throw a name in? Roberto Mancini.

Apparently Sullivan had him lined up once before. Then Mancini had a better offer

I understand he has a property in London. Whilst managing Italy will be a tremendous honour for him, I bet an appetite for club football remains.Albie Beck wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 1:50 pm Apparently Sullivan had him lined up once before. Then Mancini had a better offer

Re: The Sack Race 2022/2023
Mancini would be perfect:
Moon River, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style some day
Old dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend, Moon River and me
It’s a Yank version of Bubbles.

Moyes is on borrowed time.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone before the World Cup to give a new manager time to gel with the squad.

No idea why our next Manager would need to be a “big name”.
Who the hell would’ve considered Roberto De Zerbi for Brighton? He’s continuing their good form.

Indeed. We had the big name and excellent hair when we had Poch. He wasn’t all that.HammerMan2004 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:28 pm No idea why our next Manager would need to be a “big name”.

Peter Taylor did OK at Leicester at first and so did Bobby Martinez at Everton. Let's see how it goes once Potter's foundations begin to fade.HammerMan2004 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:28 pm No idea why our next Manager would need to be a “big name”.

Chelsea have a very different way of operating, as I am sure you are aware. If anything, our first eleven has got ahead of the actual setup, masking some of the deficiencies.Metal Hammer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:52 pm Presumably Tuchels foundations at Chelsea were a bit ropey

Re: The Sack Race 2022/2023
Southampton taking a big risk on appointing the Luton boss ?

Nathan Jones: Southampton appoint Luton boss as new manager
He guided them to promotion in 2018 and the Hatters were second in League One in January 2019 when Jones left for an ill-fated spell in charge of Stoke City.
During his 11 months with Stoke they won just six of 38 matches. Jones moved back to Kenilworth Road in May 2020, speaking of his "regret" at leaving before resurrecting his career during a successful second spell with Luton.

Re: The Sack Race 2022/2023
Because we have had a real go in the transfer market and recruited elite players who need managing by an elite manager.HammerMan2004 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:28 pm No idea why our next Manager would need to be a “big name”.
With the greatest of respect to Brighton and Soton our trajectory is slightly different. Managing the expectation of a 60k London stadium and international elite players is quite different to that of clubs half the size. I know that sounds arrogant but we have chosen a certain path with the players we purchased and they need expert coaching. In some cases an existing manager can make the step up and I still retain hope that Moyes can do so but if he goes we have to get in a smart top notch tactician who can manage big names.
