‘Net spend’ takes into account money received for players. If Liverpool, for example, get £150m for Courtinho having spent £10m on him and then go out and spend £250m they have a net spend lower than a team that went out and spent £89m.

Bad buying and lack of squad building over time skews these ‘top 6 net spend = top 6 club’ logics.

As for having a naturally higher ceiling than Brighton, what’s that entitled nonsense?

Every club can claim bad buying and lack of squad building. As for having a higher ceiling than Brighton, I should bloody hope we do! Our stadium is double the size and they were the third lowest spenders in the prem this year. Its a credit to the job Potter did.

I should’ve said £91m shouldn’t I?

Stadium size is a bit of a red herring nowadays. Have Sunderland got more potential than BHA?

I’ve always considered the LS a millstone. Hard to quantify the schizophrenia it brought with it and the lack of other revenue. Anyway, we digress…

Not at all. If you want to compete it just needs more than signing a few dudes for big money and think, "hey ho, we're now automatically part of the gang!"
Right now and because of the money coming in from the US, there must be around 5-6 clubs on our level in terms of budget. Underneath the Elite, obviously.

And on that note: Newcastle have made some great signings for their structure behind the scenes. They've got Dan Ashworth in charge of their setup. Great footballing, who has propelled Brighton to become of the best clubs in the country. We have no one in his position likewise.

No caretaker and stories doing the rounds that they’d decided not to offer it to him. Now being linked to Luton.

Lampard is 1/2, Moyes 7/2 second favourite.
