if it's the former, we might expect a "safe" pair of hands were they to bin off Moyes.

if the other bloke, then why wouldn't he go for a "big" name, Shirley he has a notion of who they may be, it's not like he isn't already vested in a European football club is it ? wouldn't he have people who are looking into these things ? after all he does have his own people on the board doesn't he ? and if the reported "take over" is to be finalised next year, then again, Shirley he'll have at least a veto if nothing else ?

of course it's not me, but were it, I bloody well know I'd want a huge say in whoever comes in next if it's my money that's going to pay him for however long the contract might be.

I’ve just looked at Villas-Boas’ record. He doesn’t seem to last 18 months anywhere. Ever. China and Russia were hardly logical career moves for an ambitious manager.

Chelsea have a very different way of operating, as I am sure you are aware. If anything, our first eleven has got ahead of the actual setup, masking some of the deficiencies.

He guided them to promotion in 2018 and the Hatters were second in League One in January 2019 when Jones left for an ill-fated spell in charge of Stoke City.

During his 11 months with Stoke they won just six of 38 matches. Jones moved back to Kenilworth Road in May 2020, speaking of his "regret" at leaving before resurrecting his career during a successful second spell with Luton.

Because we have had a real go in the transfer market and recruited elite players who need managing by an elite manager.

With the greatest of respect to Brighton and Soton our trajectory is slightly different. Managing the expectation of a 60k London stadium and international elite players is quite different to that of clubs half the size. I know that sounds arrogant but we have chosen a certain path with the players we purchased and they need expert coaching. In some cases an existing manager can make the step up and I still retain hope that Moyes can do so but if he goes we have to get in a smart top notch tactician who can manage big names.
