Poor goal to concede right at the death. Antonio played like an old man and Lanzini horrible when he came on

Conceding in the last minute or two really is a strange quirk with us. Still, as someone said, it'd been coming for a while. Rice in particular is irreplaceable. They just ran through our midfield and easily pressured us into turnovers after he went off.

Absolutely blatant shove on Antonio for their goal but the marking was comical.
Could really do with Dawson, Oggy or Aguerd being fit ASAP.

And that’s why I can’t quite see him making it in the PL. Just doesn’t have that cutting edge.BigFatSam wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 4:54 pm The issue with Coventry is that he’s a very competent footballer and doesn’t really do anything wrong. But he doesn’t really have any standout skill set that warrants him in the first 11. I don’t think he’s a playmaking midfielder, but he also doesn’t stand out to me as a defensive mid either.
I can’t really see him as being much more than a sub that comes on to keep things tidy or to act as an emergency mid in times of injuries.

I agree , just wish he'd have a go from time to time, he could be something if he started to drive into the box

Don’t think we look ready for the season at all. We’ve been poor in attack all pre season. Little bit concerning.

I agree, he’s very much in that Harry Winks type mould where do don’t do anything wrong, pass the ball nicely but they’re a bit of a wasted space in the team as they don’t add much to defence or attack.

Keep Vlasic.
Antonio doesn't look like scoring when clean through.
Both Rice and Soucek were off the pitch so conceding from that corner no surprise with Zouma the only CB on the pitch.

Remember.. it's only pre season.
Good run out.
Soucek looking lively, you love to see it.

In fairness, we probably have about 4/5 players that will be in the first 11 this season that haven’t even signed for us yet!EastleighHammer16 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 5:00 pm Don’t think we look ready for the season at all. We’ve been poor in attack all pre season. Little bit concerning.
Re: Luton Town vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Moyes will be fuming at the way we conceded that goal, but for the most part it was a decent run out. Johnson, Soucek and Vlasic were the high points (plus Rice obviously) Benrahma and Bowen struggled to get into the match and Antonio and Zouma were borderline woeful.
The need for Scamacca is obvious, and I am a bit concerned that Dawson and Diop were missing.
Soucek and Coufal look so much better after a break. We will really benefit from the Czech Republic missing out on the World Cup.
The holes in the squad remain obvious. Hopefully Scamacca will fill one of them, but we need a proper left back.

According to the players in previous interviews, Vlasic has the best/hardest shot in team, so it’s surprising that he never has a dig

Certainly would, unless of course we were playing at Anfield or Old Trafford.

Re: Luton Town vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Hard to single anyone out for criticism in that game as every single player still looks rusty. Too long spent on the ball by many resulting in them being dispossessed, misunderstandings between players during build up play, sloppy defending, poor finishing. Zouma had a bit of a nightmare and he's not good at all when pressed. Bit concerning that he's our only available centre-back right now. Coventry showed some promise when he came on. The wingback system doesn't work for me - or at least not with those players. Still... there's another match to go yet before the season starts and another 2 full weeks of training. I'm not overly concerned - I've seen us look rubbish before all through pre-season and then suddenly look like a different team when the season starts. I think the biggest concern I have by far is Diop, Dawson, and Ogbonna all currently missing

Re: Luton Town vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Not the formation for us. Hopefully was only used because we had one centre back and Moyes wanted us to have more experience of it in case of emergency.
Two of our best players in Bowen and Zouma are a bad fit for it.

I think we will see the best of the Czech lads again this season. They look refreshed.

We won't need our attack for the first game of the season.
Stop stressing.
