He was starting before the World Cup. He's just not been fit since.Centre Half wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 10:33 pm He takes his shots early which is why he has success with them.
Cracking attempt in the first half, and forced a great save out of the keeper for Bowen’s goal in the second half.
He needs to start after the international break.
👋 Farewell, Gianluca Scamacca

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
He is by far our best striker. I’m desperate for him to get a full season of games.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
The talk of him falling out with players wasn’t on show tonight. Unless those he’s fallen out with were not playing.
He is not fit though based on how much he was harrying inside 39 compared to after.

Well done Luca, played with real fire in your belly today and could have got 3 or 4 on another day.
Great partnership between him and Bowen.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
Of course he's our best Striker. He has all the attributes you want to succeed. Judt believe in him and play him and he'll produce the goods like tonight. He didn't smile more than 5 times, so the body language experts may be questioning whether he still wants to go home.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
Just seen the highlights on BT and the pundit whoever it was called him out saying his heart ain’t in it.
But it wasn’t haller-esque tonight.
He was happy to score. The players joined in with him.
He celebrated the Bowen goal he could have scored.
Would he give up if we went 1-0 down after he missed a penalty and the crowd got on his back, yes.
I’m still completely on the side of we don’t play to his strengths and the **** has hit the fan with us cos we are in a relegation battle that we revert to type.
Paqueta and Scamacca can be our future but our league position is ruining what could be.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I don't think anyone doubts his ability, a couple of lovely passes to set up chances as well. he is however short of match fitness and tonight was a good runout for him. To suggest he's ready to lead the attack is a bit premature, but if he avoids injury he will be soon

He celebrates when Bowen scores his first, which is nice to see.
Just needs to get up for it and get his nut down. Fire us to Euro glory and come back stronger next year.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
What I saw and I have only watched the first half tonight so far other than excerpts of the second, was that he was having to hold the ball up which is neither his game and will encourage errors as a result. But he actually did quite well despite the age it took anyone else to actually catch up and offer outlets and even then only Bowen showed any great skill and offered any sort of pass for him that wasn’t purely negative. At home against opposition of this nature it truly shocked me that there was such relative lack of imagination being shown. I think it equally reflects on the same problems Haller had to shine and showed just how tough it is when you have slow fullbacks offering little support out wide and sluggish midfielders from deep generally struggling to keep up with play. ‘Needs Bodies to play off’ just heard that from Hutchinson and sums up my feelings entirely you can see what a good player he is but clearly needs the right conditions and support and being put through face to goal and that’s not going to happen under Moyes and his head and heart drops accordingly. By the time support gets there so is the defence in numbers and thereafter the clever ball into a little space available he can exploit and get his shot off (which is his great strength) is not OUR strength sadly, we don’t have that creativity. A terrible waste of talent once again. In older age Moyes seems to have an even narrower skill set of player he can accommodate based around for the most part hard work and enthusiasm generating togetherness over style and panache.Happyhammer52 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 9:13 pm Yep, seems to take a touch too many.
Can see why Moyes hasn't been starting him in the league, still looks off the pace.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I saw a line striker's performance today. Not everything came off but he chased down defenders, brought others into play (when they eventually caught up) and it's nice to see a West Ham striker who looks like he can score from outside the box too. Great shot on him.
17 days training with the rest of the squad and he's definitely good value for at least half an hour against Southampton.
Would love to see him start tbh but can understand any reluctance to f*** him, Dings and Antonio around.

If holding the ball up isn’t his game then he needs to add it. Just needs to work hard on the training pitch.

When he shoots I genuinely think it might go in, when most in our team shoot, I genuinely think we are about to let one in.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I was pleased overall with his 1st half performance. And even though it looked a messy goal with how it snuck in under their keeper, I was pleased he got on the scoresheet. He even closed down a few times in that half, which was great to see.
He needs to stop taking too many touches though. It was completely unnecessary how often he did that last night. Particularly at the beginning of the 2nd half. He just kept shooting himself in the foot, as the more you do it the more likelier you’ll lose the ball, as you give the opposition more time to react.
Apart from that though, if Moyes was looking for a bit of a response from Gianluca, I think he got it last night.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
Looked better suited to us tonight, which probably comes not only from us dominating play, but having an extra attacking player on. Fornals made the effort to make the runs on the left, even from the middle, which meant Scamacca dropped off to have Lanzini open and Fornals AND Bowen making runs in behind.
The fact he shoots just makes us more dangerous. Some will be frustrating, but you get goals from spills. And you get goals testing keepers, even when they're not the best efforts.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I don't think he particularly looks short of confidence that's for sure. The early warning sign from him with a cracking strike, followed up by a goal. He isn't afraid to shoot. Honestly, it's something we really lack. Whatever the issue is, I hope he keeps his fitness up over the break, or even better gets called up for Italy. As said by others. Judging by how he is with his teammates on the field and on the bench, there didn't seem to be many signs of unpopularity or problems.

Him and Paqueta got rapturous applause when they were walking round the pitch after being subbed.
It was nice to see, they both must have been chuffed with it.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
Showed the vital football ethics of work straight away after kick-off yesterday. Tried to run at defenders and switched positions with Fornals or Bowen. Also made the most of the glaring gaps in Larnaka's back line.
Encouraging first small steps to get back into contention.

Thanks for posting this, it was good to hear him talk but that interviewer was off the scale in terms of banal questions.
