Sometimes it's down to luck. The way the ball canons back of the post and across can leave defenders flat footed.

Poor marking at the near post with the header off the post. Slightly fortuitous though that it angled off the post right to their guy inbetween 3 of our defenders (bit like the Forest goal in that respect). It defo went out though so correct decision. Pity a few years back the same level of officiating wasn't present against Manure at our place when the ball went out about a yard and Pogba scored (?). :angryred:

I wasn't able to watch today, so wondered whether we went to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 in the second half? I assume it was 4-2-3-1 with Fornals as #10, but as we played more of a 4-3-3 at Forest I'm intrigued...
Anyone got a firm view either way?

we attempted 19 crosses. and from what I can make out, 3 successful...

and with a 6'5 CF you'd think we would luck out and get one on his noggin. now it of course doesn't say when those crosses occurred, you'd like to think that most should have been done when the tall bloke was on the field.
I actually think it is quite possible that we didn't even get the ball into their area once in the 1st half. I'd be interested to see a heat map because I think that's what it would show.

So, as for the comment that we could've scored the deflected goal in the 1st half, I think that suggests that we didn't get anywhere near enough to the goal to have done so.

Emerson 6 (Benrahma 46);
Benny was an improvement when he came on but 46 out of 10 is a little OTT. :winker:

WEST HAM (343): Fabianski 6.5; Kehrer 7, Zouma 7.5, Cresswell 7; Johnson 6 (Coufal 23, 6), Rice 8, Soucek 7, Emerson 6 (Benrahma 46); Bowen 6, Scamacca 6 (Antonio 65, 6), Fornals 6.

Unused Subs: Areola, Lanzini, Downes, Cornet, Agbonna, Coventry.

Moyes: 7
Overly generous to Rice. Zouma or Kehrer were better for me. Surprised Fornals was only a six when he won he match.

When he was on that great run where he got cynically taken down and we got a free kick, I believe he suffered some cramp in his foot so hopefully that's all it was.

Zouma won everything in the air (we should call him Biggles) and Kehrer looks tidy, agreed.

Bowen and Fornals still off it a bit for me IB.

They always do - looks at any ratings there for the last 20 games or so: Zouma is worst.

Oggy was warming up on the other side of the pitch and made it all the way across to join in the pile-on with the fans :scarfer:

Yeah, but my rule of thumb is a winning goal should earn a bonus point. One thing I notice is we usually never look quite as good when he is taken off even if he is not at his best.

I thought we went to a 4231with Cress left-back.
Benrahma as a 10 and Fornals on the left.

As last season fornals played deeper and nearer Cresswell. So pretty fluid as morphs almost into a 433 with Benrahma drifting to the left and Fornals tucking in.

What's the matter with you? The ball went out of play = no goal. Thems the rules, not luck.

Forgive me, but it is like you are trying to find a negative where none exists.
