Player Stats

Post by Burnley Hammer »

Thought I'd create a new thread for this it doesn't quite fit in anywhere else (and this is just for fun really - I'm fully aware that stats don't tell the whole story).

Stats are per 90 mins where possible rather than per game so that they're not skewed by substitute appearances. I've excluded Lanzini, Cornet, and Emerson due to lack of minutes.

So far after 5 games....

Best Crosser of the ball (assuming that a successful cross is one that finds a teammate):
Aaron Cresswell: 50% success rate
In comparison we have Fornals on 19%, Benrahma on 17%, Coufal on 12%, and Bowen on 7%

But who's best at blocking crosses?
Johnson blocks the most crosses with 1.6 per 90 mins
According to WhoScored, Coufal and Cresswell have yet to block a cross.

Most key passes per 90 mins
Benrahma: 2.3
Followed by Cresswell 1.7, Scamacca 1.2, Antonio 1.1, Rice 1

Most interceptions per 90 mins
Coufal: 2.2
Followed by Soucek 1.8, Fornals 1.4, Kehrer 1.3, Johnson 1.2, Rice 1.2

Most tackles per 90 mins
Rice: 3
Followed by Soucek 2.6, Bowen 1.6, Fornals 1.6, Johnson 1.2, Coufal 1.1

Most shots per 90 mins
Benrahma: 2.6
Followed by Soucek 2 (for those who don't think he gets forward enough), Bowen 1.8, Fornals 1.6, Antonio 1.4, Scamacca 1.2

Most successful dribbles per 90 mins
Benrahma: 2
Unfortunately he also has the most unsuccessful too. Fornals, Scamacca, and Antonio have a higher success rate with only Bowens being lower.

Headers won per 90
Zouma 3.2 (also comfortably wins the clearances category)
Followed by Scamacca 3, Antonio 2.6, Soucek 1.8, Rice 1.4
Zouma is the most successful too, winning 89% of his aerial duels. Antonio with the worst with around 35% won
Cresswell has surprisingly won 6 out of his 7 aerial duels this season.

Possession loss
No surprises here.
Our wingers (Bowen, Benrahma) get dispossessed the most.
Our strikers lose possession through bad control the most.

A comparison of our centre backs (per 90 mins). As Ogbonna and Dawson don't have enough league minutes yet this season, I've used last seasons stats for those two.

Kehrer can pass. Zouma can win headers.

I feel like I knew that :crossed:

I was surprised to see Ogbonna with the worst long pass accuracy.

Probably worth a discussion in another thread but he has looked like a shadow of the player we knew recently.

Are the crosses from open play or do they include set pieces?

It lists corners and free kicks as separate stats so I suspect its from open play only

Here's another, based on our Premier League games so far.

Our creators along with relevant stats (focussing on the attacking side of the game). Some stats are easily explained and obvious, others more interesting.

Like him or not, I think it does demonstrate how important Cresswell is when we attack, both with his general involvement, and with the chances he creates.

Don't know about players stats but I'll stick these in here;

- we have had a higher xG than our opponents in five of our seven league games this season , according to understat
- we have hit the woodwork five times in seven games, and missed a penalty;
- we have had 22 shots on target, but only scored 3 goals
- we have conceded 21 shots on target, but have conceded 9 goals.

That passing accuracy from Coufal is grim. Our right side is having a rough time looking at those stats.

I've just checked and Coufal had the most touches of any of our players today with 81. Paquetà had 31, Antonio had 17 in 70 mins and Scamacca had 4 in 20.

Antonio completed 5 passes all game.Just by comparison Maupay had 40 touches, completed 27 passes. Scamacca completed 1 pass in 20 minutes. He had 4 touches, attempted 3 passes and completed 1.

It really shows how isolated the striker is using those numbers.

Much the same today. Our right hand side is significantly weaker than the left when it comes to ball retention.

Got any stats on running and sprints? 💩

I wonder just how much of our problems are down to a simple lack of application.

So clearly Benrahma deserves to start. Interesting how some of the things he gets slated for (crossing/passing accuracy) is a step up from what both Bowen and Fornals are producing. Stiil, it's Benrahma who gets benched and criticised by Moyes...

We need to start getting some decent corners going. We’re a shadow of our former selves in this area. We had 14 today. The sooner Dawson’s back to nut a few in, the better.

I'd expect that those two will be in Moyes' sights with Benrahma and Cornet both pushing them hard for a start.

Can understand why he feels some loyalty and some level of trust with those two, they were an intrinsic part of our improvement, but they can't live off previous performances for too long.

There has to be some question about the reasons why we are letting in so many goals from so few shots on target as well.

We are actually top 6 on limiting the number of shots other teams are having against us.

Our entire right hand side is under-performing both in terms of ball retention and in creating chances.
