Or Easyjet, National Express or Ryanair.

It's just a quirk and hangover from 1940s nationalisation.

Tube has been on strike 135 times since 2016. The average supermarket doesn't let the public down in that way. In fact, it would take some doing to find anything that works less for the public than the Tube.

I do love how you assume everything is about the tube when I say public workers

nurses, doctors, teachers, civil servants

all covered by the idea of pay rises linked to MPs

it wasnt an "oh tube workers should get this"

but crack on.

must add at end screw the private sector because apparently its that aswell

oh and pro labour anti tory

just to keep all the tosh on this thread going

Can sign passports
You get a work email.

Is the passport signing from a limited list of professions still a thing? I thought anyone could do it now. No wonder people are restricted on access to voting ID all those trade unionists deciding who can have a passport

I think it's different depending on whether it's for a renewal or initial application. The last list I saw had on it that your doctor couldn't sign it unless he was friend as there was a good chance he didn't know you well enough. The trouble people have getting a GP's appointment I can see why.
I've got letters after me name so can sign one, for a small fee delbert MIMechE is available.......

State of the government! Just found out our gp is closing in July

We asked why , government has withdrawn all funding to independent surgeries, they want them all into bigger medical centres

So receptionists, both GPS (in their 30s) and the nurses basically reapply for somewhere else

I'd say it makes sense for big medical centres if there were actually more of them and enough GPs to cope rather than forcing them out of practice

Do the govt fund gp surgeries? I thought NHS England bought services as required.

Is ditching independents the same as less privatisation in the NHS?

GP surgeries are overwhelmingly private businesses.

I think wholly independent means wholly private. https://www.cqc.org.uk/guidance-provide ... c-services

GPs usually have an NHS contract, but can operate privately alongside that, but there are restrictions on which things are chargeable and to whom. They can't charge an NHS registered patient for a service that would be free on the NHS under their NHS GP contract.

I think. :)

They can charge for things like medicals, or they can charge non-NHS registered patients.

None of above

They are a completely NHS service , but they work out of 2 houses , entire bottom floor etc

The government have withdrawn funding for them as they want medical centre models

Fine in theory but have them all built ready before forcing GPs to close their doors

Letter arrived today

They have been a fantastic local practice
