And you know that how?Sead Hakšabanović wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 10:19 am We don't have to copy another country. Are you aware of self-determination?
We'd be a better, fairer, more progressive country without these corrupt parasites.
Abolish the monarchy, reform the HoL, and that's a huge step. We don't need a President. A Prime Minister is sufficient.

Re: The Monarchy
Because the monarchy offer nothing, provide nothing. They are the richest family in the UK with huge assets which they have stolen from the country. They take and they don't give. But the media (particularly The BBC) are a rolling PR team for them and convince people that somehow they are good.
Their existence is morally wrong. That should be enough, unless you prefer to live as a subject funding an unelected, unaccountable institution.
And when you ask people why they support the monarchy, you get some guff about tourism and tradition.
It's actually quite laughable.

Re: The Monarchy
According to Forbes, the gross cost to each individual taxpayer is a little over a penny a day, whilst their economic uplift is £2.5 billion a year.
Yep, they cost the country a fortune.
I'm not a monarchist, but I have no objection to it remaining.

Re: The Monarchy
When you say billion, do you mean million times a million?
Just wondered as I'm sure that some places (America) do things differently

It's rather important, even if it's value is difficult to monetise

Re: The Monarchy
Quick search on the pedia that is wiki, the UK oficially adopted a billion as a thousand million in 1974, although it was in common use after WW2

Edit: so if my (observedly poor) maths is correct, they cost the UK about £24 billion a year?
Or is it £244 billion?
Was drinking last night, so my brain refuses to work for me.

Re: The Monarchy
It's an interesting bit of history. The "British Billion" did used to be different to the US billion - but it's been standardised since 1975:Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:00 am ^^^^I'm pretty certain that a billion is accepted to be a thousand million everywhere.

The UK version had 12 zeroes compared to the US 9 zeroes, but the former is now universally recognised as a trillion instead.

Re: The Monarchy
Thanks
Were those figures in
1. 3/21 'The growing cost of the royal family to taxpayers', or
2. 7/19 'The Royal Family is getting increasingly expensive'?

Re: The Monarchy
I don't know mate, I Googled it, saw it, copied the numbers and pasted it, and don't particularly take any notice of the article title or anything else that wasn't relevant.
You're capable of searching out yourself and deciphering which one - and I'm also perfectly sure you're more than capable of looking beyond a headline.

Re: The Monarchy
If you disagree with what I said and think it's wrong, then show me I'm wrong, it's not down to me to prove I'm right to someone on a football forum that doubts what I've posted when I'm about to try and work through hundreds of photos for a client.
It shouldn't be difficult - you called me out on it, nobody else, so the ball is in your court, Proph.
EDIT: f*** it, there you go.
