Must admit I'm surprised Bowen kept his place. Fair play to Southgate - he seems committed to giving players a decent chance to prove themselves.

I don’t think Bowen will make the final cut but that’s one to watch.

Toney has earnt his call up, the only other maybe is probably Rashford but he’s injured at the moment.

That squad is more or less the one that is going to be named the provisional team for the World Cup.

Can't believe Downes didn't get a call-up after last Thursday night.

Kalvin Phillips has played 1 minute of premier league football this season. Harry Maguire has been dropped by his club because, well, he's ****.

Standard England squad, then.

EDIT. Missed out Shaw. Played twice this season.

Last squad before the World Cup. Southgate has 4 training sessions and 2 games before we get going. He will obviously go to those he knows and trusts.

Maguire won’t start imo but Phillips should 100% be in there. He’s a key cog to the way we play.

There is no way Southgate will play Phillips ahead of Bellingham (should both be fit). Not in a million years.

If Henderson is fit come the World Cup, and Philips continues with his playing time, he shouldn't be on the plane. Henderson is the stand-in for Rice and Mount pulled back or JWP for Bellingham.

I don't doubt his ability, but this has a Scott Parker moving to Chelsea scenario all over it.

Just seen Ben White hasn’t made it in, that one is very harsh imo. Excellent so far this season.

Ditto Dawson :(

Just seen Pickford's injured for a month so will also be out for our match this weekend.

Pickford’s replacement will be interesting.

Personally, I’d fancy Pope but have no issue with any of those three keepers.

The best pair is Rice and Phillips. Southgate knows that and is right to include Phillips and play him in key tournament games alongside Rice. Jarrod gets a another go I think because Southgate recognises that you don't see the best of a player in a summer tournament after a 51 game season.

Completely undeserved for Bowen based on performances since he scored 2 against Man City.

I think he's probably lucky there's a tournament coming up and Southgate wants to keep every option open to him. If this was a normal break then I reckon he'd have got a call from one of Southgate's coaches telling him he needs to refind that form from the first half of 2022.
