Herita Illunga

Post by Puff Daddy »

Don't know why it was, but I suddenly thought about him. He was never the greatest, but I always thought he was OK. Don't recall he ever let us down. I still remember his debut for us, at least, I think it was his debut, at Liverpool and was surprised how good he was, got away with a blatant handball in our penalty box, for which he developed the nickname 'Hands' from thereon in, but aside from that, was always alright in my book. Even scored in an FA Cup win at UP. He later left us and went out on loan to Doncaster, a move, eventually made permanent, but made only 4 appearances, before returning to the French league. Now aged 40 and retired from the game. Herita Illunga

Since we're naming random left backs, I always thought Fabrio Daprela looked quality and he as only about 19. Surprised his career didn't work out.

Very decent first season, terrible the following year after we signed him fulltime, and career subseqeuntly plummeted. Another victim of our second season full-back curse that has plagued since the start of the 00s.

Wasn't there some speculation than he was much older than his passport age? He certainly looked it.

As an aside, I always used to say his name in the style of Vic Reeves on Shooting Stars. "Eeee-lung-aaa"

Injury in 2009 hurt him badly. I think he missed close to half of 2009/2010 and when he came back he wasn’t the same player he had been when he signed.

I remember him getting stung for the cross that led to Cardiff’s goal in our first game in the Championship in 2011. And he didn’t last long after that.

I don't remember whether he suffered a big injury. Just thought he became crap! We often have a lot of players ruined by injury don't we?

Carroll
Collison
Ashton
Jenkinson
Lanzini
Wilshere
Dyer
Faubert
Hitzlsperger
Yarmolenko
Reid
Gabbidon

Players like Tarrico who didn't even begin their careers with us...Dale Gordon or Richard Hall if we want to go back in time...

Hoping Aguerd comes back OK!

They drink it in the Congo. Ilunga was born in Zaire which is now DR Congo. I think he was capped. Masuaku is also a DR Congo int'l.
