I wouldn’t worry. Unless you’re genuinely torn between the Tories, someone like Reform UK or not voting at all, you’ll know exactly who to vote for in ‘24 or ‘25. I dare say you could give it a good guess right now. . Let’s see if you’re so unsure as the election approaches.

How in gods name did you draw that conclusion from both my posts because you have just re-iterated my point for me!!!!YorksHammer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:09 am Hitler and the Nazi party came to power on January 30th 1933. May 2nd 1933 the trade union offices were occupied, funds confiscated, leaders arrested, and unions disbanded. Hitler established the German Labour Front a week later.
So if your argument is that the suppression of the trade unions didn't occur under Hitler and the Nazi Party, you're wrong. If your just being pernickety about dates, then your obfuscating.
This place gets worse and worse.

Can we give the Hitler/Nazi arguments a rest on this thread now? Maybe start a new, relevant thread in The Snug if you want to continue splitting hairs over dates, causes et cetera. This thread is the Sunak d̶e̶b̶a̶c̶l̶e̶ government thread.
Cheers, lovelies!

Perhaps the 'stop' should also apply to the hyperbole of comparing this government to The Nazis in the first place, dear chap. Stop it at source, so to speaklast.caress wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 9:28 am Can we give the Hitler/Nazi arguments a rest on this thread now?

Anyhoo. On topic, please, you bumsniffers! (Just followed that up with a joke about me moderating like a little Hitler but it's probably the wrong time. Read the room, Elsie!)

Of course it does, mate. Tacky, inaccurate and, as far as I'm aware, a comparison which draws significant offense, especially from both survivors and the families of the victims.

Of course it is nowhere near the level of party gate; it merely shows the level of competence of this government if they can manage to break the law shooting a PR video!bonzosbeard wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 8:41 pm I'm as big a critic of the tories there is but the seat belt thing isn't really a story. A mistake, he's paid the fine, I don't feel it has the same weight as partygate.
Boris famously didn’t do details and looks like the same applies under Sunak.

Hmm, we are talking about seatbelts but not tax dodging?

A 30% penalty is also at the low end given the circumstances but I’m sure you or I would be treated the same…

Re: The Sunak Government 2022-
Zahawi is another symptom of a party that is rotten to the core of it's MPs. Don't for a second believe this is an honest 'error', not when you look at the scale of it. Trouble is, he like many others will argue the toss about whether or not they're now in the right, rather than do the appropriate thing, admit they conned us out of money, and resign.
Another scandal that will result in minimal, if any, punishment. Even if he is sacked from cabinet he'll remain an MP and probably get another cabinet, or shadow cabinet, role in a future reshuffle.

It would be interesting to see the demographic of these 'UK traffickers', and how many of the 10% 'disappearing' are actually part of the elsewhere claimed (Telegraph, not that I read it myself though) 20% of Albanian adult migrants falsely claiming to be children.
Sounds like a sh*tshow all round tbh.

Re: The Sunak Government 2022-
Jamie Cleverly gets the short straw and pushed out to tour this mornings politics shows.
Went big with the 'Manuel' defence, apparently he knows nothing about Zahawi diddling us out of millions in tax and threatening any journalist who dared investigate it, and equally knows nothing about an undeclared £800,000 loan to Johnson brokered by the man who then just happened to get selected by Johnson for the top BBC job...
Another good day for "integrity, professionalism and accountability"

Re: The Sunak Government 2022-
The people who are in government and who are making descions on behalf of us that have a nationwide impact, try to put themselves over as clever and knowedgeble.
That said:
we have a pm that didn't know he was at a party and didn't know that wearing a seatbelt in the back seat of a car is required by law.
An ex-chancellor who didn't know that he would be liable for 3 mill plus in taxes, but was wise enough to put the "frighteners" on any journo that would report on it.
An ex pm - who has a whole list of previous form - is somehow entagled with a BBC chairman and a £800k loan.
If these people don't know basic stuff like this, how on earth can they be trusted to make descions on things that are going to affect us nationally and internationally?

Re: The Sunak Government 2022-
Even the most objective observer (which, of course, I'm not) couldn't help but realise that there are cycles in politics, and it really does seem as though the Tories have been in power too long. They need, as a party, to renew. It stands to reason that when one party is in power for long enough it breaks into factions, and dominating the party's agenda becomes more and more important, to the detriment of it's electability, as familiarity breeds contempt. Traditionally the party has been prepared to gloss over it's internal differences at election time (usually for them to return very soon after) and rally behind whichever individual happens to be Fleet St, flavour of the month, but the upcoming election feels like a step too far, and it's far from clear that some of their usual friends in the press will even back them this time round.
