6. An air fryer does use less energy than a conventional oven

The conclusion? "Cooking in the air fryer uses less than half of the energy required to cook the chicken or the jacket potato in the oven," says Greg. "So, cooking in the oven costs more than double what it costs in an air fryer."
Personally I'm still not convinced yet. Yes you appear to be saving 15p or so a cook. But how many goes with the air fryer will it take to recoup the outlay?
Even if you save 20p a go it will take you 250 cooked meals before you cover your original £50. Clearly the more expensive Ninjas a lot more.
Will your £50 model last that long?

Well, using the thing for the first time today. Just knocked some frozen chips up in it. That'll do for now.

Will roast a whole chicken in it later.

To be honest I'm not sure how long it will take to recoup the money, if we ever will. One of the main reasons for buying ours was to cook with less fat and therefore being more healthy/diet friendly.

Whilst I love the energy save now it was never the reason to get it, I find it cooks things nicer than the oven and it's just convenient to use.

The reheat function is one of the best bits .. left over BBQ food no longer tastes rubbish

Yes, now it's cold here I've been eating chicken pies more lately.

20 minutes on 250 bake setting, 10 minutes on 350 then flip it & 5 minutes on 400 so it's a little crispy all over.

Cooked a lasagne in it last night with garlic bread too. It was delicious.

Think it may be an idea to point out to AF that those temps are F and not C before he cremates everything

This is true. I did think about that then promptly forgot. Celsius is considered an evil by product of Socialism on this side of the Atlantic.

Tonight I'll be making Chicken Tikka Masala after my trip to the desert & mountains. In Fahrenheit.

we used to microwave for 7 mins then in the oven for 45 mins so could microwave then air fry for half hour

however would like to see if there is just an air fry way as its such a simple winter meal

I'm sure someone mentioned doing jacket spuds earlier in this thread.

WTF!

I'm going to sound like a global warming denier, but here goes

These here air fryers should suit me down to the ground, BUT....

"They do great toasties" - That's a job for the hob, with a frying pan on it. (the hob not the toastie)

"Does a lovely pork chop" - Oh Jesus on a unicycle - Ditto above

"Bacon is great in it" - Slap me with a wet fish, who actually bakes/roasts bacon! (Ditto above)

"Gonna do a Chicken Tikka Masala in it" - Love you Shab's but your're a twat sometimes, use a hob and a frying pan

"Oven chips" - Where the actual 'coital expression' do I start with this.
Pay £2.50 to cook frozen chips in a cost effective manner or pay £0.70 for the equivalent amount of potatoes and fry them off on the hob with delicious fat crisping them to perfection.. c'mon, a properly fried chip is one of those things that make this here nation at least bearable isn't it?

What else.. oh yeah, "Garlic Bread" (not to go all Peter Kay) - it's a simple job for the hob (that's the slogan I think).

I'm glad that mostly all of you are enjoying what comes out of your air fryers (no, really), but if you're only doing it because of the energy cost and not the health benefits think again.
The best foods in the world are produced "on the hob" (with the exception of roast pot's and yorks' pudding) and it costs a fraction of the conventional oven.

Peace and one love :smiler:

I'm a twat most of the time but getting to use the oven/hob isn't that easy. My mother in law always has giant pots of Pho, or Thai curry cooking on it. You don't want to get in the way of an elderly Thai woman in the kitchen. So I have my air fryer set up outside, next to a microwave, and that's my own kitchen.

I'm actually making garlic naan bread pizza in it right now as a late night snack.

So reading through this thread and wondering - is it worth me getting one of these?

I'm not too bothered about energy saving stuff vs the oven - nice to have but not essential - or in terms of quality of food vs other methods of cooling, but more in terms of time saving on an evening.

Generally speaking there's three meals I cook a week with the kids - pasta and garlic bread one night as a 'quick' meal between school and clubs, a curry, and then something from the freezer or we make a pizza. Also recently got them into jacket spuds (although they don't eat the skins, philistines). Then there's four nights of the week where I tend to cook something like a spag bol, soup, curry, stir fry, risotto. If I get an urge to be less simple, lasagne or shepherd's pie or something.

Basically, I use my (gas) hob for most of my cooking and my oven quite rarely, only once/twice a week. Is there any real benefit to me having one of these?

Chicken Kievs come out nice. 14 minutes, as opposed to 15 minutes warming the oven, and 25 to 30 minutes to cook.

I'm now going to eat nothing else but.
