England's World Cup chances

Post by IronRhino »

All 4 teams in England's group are in FIFA'S top 20 world rankings. The USA are an emerging force, Iran will be used to playing in 30c+ temperatures and Wales will undoubtedly be more passionate

If England continue with their recent form, (in the last 6 games we have drawn 3, lost 3) we won't make it out of the group. There is no doubt that we have some great forwards, but will Southgate make the most of them? Like Moyes he can be overly cautious and set up not to lose rather than playing to our strengths and getting on the front foot. Like Moyes he can also be slow to react when things aren't going to plan.

We need to get off to a good start, but hard to see us winning it, for me it's semi-final at best this time around

It’s interesting to look at so many squads that look so ‘samey’. Essentially no massive change in recent years. Belgium are a prime example. Wales are still going to be reliant on a number of the same players.

England have evolved a lot since 2018, and for the better. But not enough since 2021. I also feel that the defence is much more suspect than it was, and goalkeeper is a concern.

In terms of advancing through this stages, I think England will be fine. I don’t think there is much chance of winning the tournament.

The key unknown is Bellingham. He’s the player England have been needing for the past 10 years who can pick out a pass, recycle the ball quickly and create attacks.

Stage is yours, show everyone how good you are.

Really? If you’re that confident you should have a bet on it as you’ll get very good odds.

I’m usually an optimistic England fan but I don’t think we have much chance. I would assume we’ll go out in the 1/4’s, we just have no track record of beating any top nation. Germany is an anomaly.

Waistcoat is finally going to get found out.

All three teams in our group are going to be gunning for us. I think we'll go out at the first hurdle.

I know and care a lot less about our squad than I did 20 years ago

We'll do well, Southgate is a tailor-made tournament manager. It will be dull, dire, predictable but it will get us results.

We'll finish 2nd in our group and then be knocked out by the Dutch in the last 16.

It will be dull and predicable but this time we won't get the results. Past the group stages anyway. We'll scrape through on 5 points, winning one and drawing the other two. I may get those round the wrong way, but 5 points is what I reckon.

England 1- 0 Iran
England 2-2 Wales
England 1-1 USA

Disagree that he's a bottler, fundamentally we will get found out towards the end of the tournament because the defenders aren't good enough.

England 1- 0 Iran
England 2-2 Wales
England 1-1 USA
I don't disagree with the 5 points prediction but really it doesn't matter, the tournament starts in the knockout stages and his record in those aint too bad.

That's purely down to luck of the draw though Knighter. As soon as we've played anybody really good we've lost.

Some think England have peaked. I'm not so sure, but I do see parallels between this squad and our 2010 team, which was a wasted opportunity
