I'm absolutely gutted. Although Buckingham and Nicks generally got the plaudits her songwriting and keyboards were fundamental to their sound. Rest in peace Christine.Christine McVie, who played with Fleetwood Mac and wrote some of their most famous songs, has died aged 79, her family has said.
The British singer-songwriter was behind hits including Little Lies, Everywhere, Don't Stop, Say You Love Me, and Songbird.
She died peacefully at a hospital in the company of her family, a statement said.
McVie left Fleetwood Mac after 28 years in 1998 but returned in 2014.
The family's statement said "we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally".

That's a big one. That edition of FM ruled the world for a few years. Wonderful song writer and singer and undoubtedly the most grounded in that circus. Very sad news. RIP.

Re: Christine McVie RIP
When I was a kid I hated Fleetwood Mac. Everyone hated Fleetwood Mac. They just weren't cool were they?
But as I've aged I've learned to appreciate their music, and sheer resilience as a band to keep on going through stuff that would have blown most others to pieces.
Christine McVie was such a talented writer and musician. Sorry I spent so long ignoring you. RIP

Re: Christine McVie RIP
It's easy to scoff at FM but Rumours is an absolutely top notch album. I only bought it for the first time about 4 years ago and realised even the lesser known songs were brilliant and Christine's songs were a great counter point to the Buckingham/Nicks stuff.
Rest in peace Christine. A true music legend.

Saw FM in the early 70's with Christine in the band and again with the later line up on Rumours tour As best I can remember.
She was also in Chicken Shack before Fleetwood Mac .
Proper blues musician.
RIP. Christine

Re: Christine McVie RIP
Oh, no! I can only echo what BiLR said above. I never gave two stuffs for Fleetwood Mac for the vast majority of my life and I only started listening to them closely over the last couple of years, and so only became appreciative of Ms. McVie's extraordinary songwriting ability very, very recently. And now she's gone.
RIP

I echo Bendy. It was easy to dismiss FM back in the 70s, but I always respected the quality of the songs. A soundtrack to part of my life. And Christine always seemed to be the most grounded and normal of all the band, as well as the most talented musically. RIP - those Perfect songs will live on.

I was in HMV a few years ago and this young couple were looking at the Rumours T shirt. They had never heard of Fleetwood Mac. I told them to check them out. I hope they did. Wonderful band. RIP Christine.

Re: Christine McVie RIP
I am old enough to remember the original Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, songs like Albatross, I Need Your Love So Bad, Green Manalishi, Black Magic Woman, Oh Well, Man Of The World.
But Christine McVie was a great singer/song writer.
RIP.

Re: Christine McVie RIP
I must admit that I much prefer the Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac than what it became when he left. The contrast in the style of music was huge once he'd left.
They're my missus favourite band and she got to see them when they played Wembley last year and said it was the best gig she'd ever been to. Not really for me though.
RIP

I've always likes both versions of Fleetwood Mac.
Always loved Rumours. Great piece of work in my mind and a lot of that was down to Christine McVie.

Re: Christine McVie RIP
I actually prefer the first part of "The Chain" to the second part. Some lovely guitar work on there from Lindsay BuckinghamEggs'n'nuts wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 12:50 pm I've always likes both versions of Fleetwood Mac.

Re: Christine McVie RIP
Just watching live concert from 1998 on BBC4 right now after the documentary, such a tight band which is all the more impressive given the years of in-fighting.
A very sad loss
