I feel similar to how I did when we lost to Frankfurt.

Really proud of the team, gave a good showing and on any other night that would have been arguably a relatively comfortable victory.

The drought goes on, but there are a lot of positives ti take away from this tournament.

No issues with Kane taking the second pen.

However I just knew that he was going to miss it for some reason. He just didn't look confident at all.

What he got wrong was trying to go the same side but trying to hit it even harder, which so often affects your accuracy.
Bet he's kicking himself now that he didn't just aim for the Keeper's left.
Still no guarantee that we'd have won. Or beaten Morocco, or Argentina who I'm presuming will get to the final.
Oh well, 56 years of hurt. Who knows, might well win it on the 60th anniversary... might be written in the stars..

I'd have no prob with a penalty being saved, you can't score everytime,I do have a little prob,(not blame gaming here BTW)
when someone hoofs it over the bar,by a distance at that.......That's Nerves...in saying that I can't imagine a more pressurised
situation.....some players are nerveless, others let things get to them and get jittery, that's life.
I'm F***ked off with him,but I also get it.

Not sure what we coulda done different...was just another 50/50 game where lucks goes a little against you...
Giroud was a problem....he plays as an out and out CF...Kane drops deeper ...great when at tots,he's a cracking player,,but maybe,
a more Giroudesk role when he plays for England...
Henderson was out on the right alot...thought that was to double up on Mbappe, but that didn't really happen,he might have been
better, treading on Griezmanns toes a bit more, who was key last night.....Bellingham has a free role ,Dec Tidys up/covering,sometimes
you need someone else in there to get on the nerves of the playmaker.
Unlike a lot on here tho I like Henderson a lot.
Saka had a good tournament but, don't think he brings a lot more than Sterling TBH...Was Looking forward to Foden, was ok imo, nothing
special...maybe could have used Grealish more..
Think we had our best defenders up,shame Walker was limited cos of Mbappe, speaking of him, think thats a liitle thing we lack,a player
the opposition are **** scared of....it diverts attention away from your own game a lttle you adapt cos of one player.
Messi....Neymar...Mbappe....sides set up and can slightly change a system cos of these guys.

But like said,Footie between the top sides usually come down to luck....a stupid Var decision or the like, ours just aint that good.

Not a Proper WC Anyway..Desert in Winter...F**k It.......

This is a paragraph of assessment of the match in today's,' 'Mail on Sunday' from from reporter' Ian Ladyman..."There had been one nagging fear ahead of this game though. As well as England had played prior to this night, they had not faced an attack of real quality. As such, we wondered how they would cope with a quartet of players employed by Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, PSG and AC Milan. In the end, those fears were realised. England were undone here by World-class quality

One moment of quality in my mind, the second goal. The first goal wasn't really a moment of quality but we were asleep nonetheless. We coped quite well with all the other moments of quality. Opinions eh. I've been a miserable sod all day but I'm proud of the team.

We still really lack a midfielder who can run a game, Rice is brilliant at winning the ball, keeping it ticking but we lack a Modric etc who can run the game, for me Bellingham is great but the hyperbole is far too much currently but Rice, Bellingham and one other who can conduct a game going forward

Very good point. We don't. We haven't a midfield orchestrator. I have just spent a moment lamenting upon our World Cup record ever since we last won it in 1966. It is pretty dreadfull, you know:-

1966: Winners
1970: Quarter Finalists -beaten by West Germany
1974: DNQ
1978: DNQ
1982: 2nd Group stage exit - needed to beat Spain
1986: Quarter Finalists: Beaten by Argentina
1990: Semi Finalists: Beaten by Germany
1994: DNQ
1998: Quarter Finalists: Beaten by Argentina
2002: Quarter Finalists: Beaten by Brazil
2006: Round of 16: Beaten on penalties by Portugal
2010: Round of 16: Beaten by Germany
2014: Group stage exit
2018: Semi Finalists: Beaten by Belgium
2022: Quarter Finalists: Beaten by France

Why are we always so heavily fancied ?

We don’t lack them - English football culture just doesn’t trust them.

Everyone losing their **** about Bellingham (great player but basically Steven gerrard) meanwhile Fodens on the wing and Grealish and Maddison are on the bench.

Same old same old.

Historically, much of that was internal hype, and the press didn’t help. Always remember The Sun announcing the 2010 group with the acronym ‘EASY’, only for England to pick up 5 points and get hammered by the Germans. 1998 England lost to Romania in the Group Stage and after Owen equalised, Terry z enables on commentary for ITV said ‘well, there’s only going to be one winner’ (or something to that effect), on for Dan Petrescu to pick off a last minute winner. Or 2006 when a woefully balanced team had none of the attributes to win the tournament, but enough individual players, at club level that were hyped into winning it.

In short, England weren’t fancied by people other than the press and members of the commentator teams for most of the tournaments since ‘66. Since 2018, there is a genuine and legitimate reason to expect to be at the sharper end of the tournament.

Well.... To be fair England are rarely mentioned as top favorites outside the UK.

Even now they were not really considered top 3 favorites here before the tournament by pundits and press.

For the record: for me England was THE favorite this WC. :winker:

Well, it may not have come home, but 'Dave' the cat is. 'Dave' the stray tabby, who attached himself to the players at the training ground complex, in Doha, has been adopted by John Stones and after passing quartantine, will have a new home in leafy Cheshire and no doubt live in resplendent luxury at his Wilmslow mansion. Mind you, how much 'Dave' will thank him for removing him from temperatures in the upper 20's to -16 Cheshire is another matter for debate entirely.

My main observation of Mbappe, was how flawless his skin was.

Might as well nickname Rashford 'Toe Nails' after that.... given that's the only part of him you can see hanging out of Mbappe's a*se hole...

The English mindset and mentality is alway that of the perennial loser. Until that changes - nothing else will.

Boring.

He had 2/3 players on him every time he got the ball, thus allowing space for others.
