France or Argentina then again. Sigh.
I'd rather watch the 3rd/4th place playoff & I've never said that before..

If Nathan can persuade a couple of their other lads to sign up I wouldn't be unhappy.

If we're honest, France weren't really pushed here. Until just now. Lots of endeavor and graft but so little actually testing Lloris.
People saying that, but I saw Lloris having to make some crucial saves. In the end Maroc didn't have the forwards that France have, but look at how much of that game they were pressing France hard

Unlucky Morocco!

That game was much like England v France. The French seem content to sit off for an hour every match and let the other team have all the play.

They got lucky against England, the Moroccans lack the finishing quality but they won't get away with it against Argentina.

Question is, do they put in the effort on a weekly basis, or are they currently motivated by playing on the world stage, by national pride, and riding the wave of already having exceeded expectations ?

Morocco were magnificent in defeat.

Deschamps though was brave enough to make the key tactical change.

And Griezman was fabulous tonight.

Qatar owned PSG get their two star players in the World Cup final in Qatar.

If Brazil didn't scr*w up big times, there would have been the 4 PSG stars in the 4 semi finalists.

It’s going mental here in the streets after that win.

I thought Morocco gave France a physical game and dominated for the latter part of the first half and half of the second half but thanks to two great saves from Loris they were stopped from scoring. Griezman was excellent again and is the player of the tournament for me.

Mbappé rounding three players before his assist for the second goal was a thing of wonder. Allez les bleus for thé final.

Google's match ratings suggest Mbappe was France's best player :asleep:

I was only checking if the ref had remembered his cards as he had quite a stiff word with various French players on numerous occasions; notably in the first half, admonishing Dembele for committing two yellow cardable offences in the space of a minute and clearly indicating he was referring to two offences. But just gave him a ticking off and a wag of the finger. With five substitutes permitted, that's up to 48 promising attacks that can be stopped illegaly stopped before anyone picks up a second yellow!
Turns out he did book a Moroccan player though - Boufal when he caught Hernandes' knee with his thigh.
At least the ref tonight did penalise fouls though.

Scrapping all disciplinary points after the quarter finals was a laughable idea too: a team can foul its way into the semi-final, then into the final too, knowing unless they get a red card in the semi no-one will be suspended for the final.
Scrapping just the group stage yellows after the quarters would have made more sense.
It's irrelevant if the refs aren't going to give fouls and cards anyway.

Qatar 2022 - the fairest play tournament ever?
If there are no reds in the final, the tally of four red cards will be the joint fewest sending-offs per game with the 2018 tournament.
However only three cards were shown during the match in play, and two of those were after 90 minutes had been played. Hennesey was the only straight red (in the 86th minute) and that was after a VAR recommendation.

I mean, there definitely has to be some element of the above. With that said, I think this Morocco run has been a masterclass in management and tactics. Their manager has known exactly how to set up the team to have the best chance of getting a result, and has executed.

More importantly, he’s set them up so they believe that if they trust the system and play their roles, they can still create enough chances to get a result. It’s easier to be motivated to play for national pride when you know that if you truly play your best, you’re set up in a way which will set you up for a win.

I’d contrast this to to some other teams who had comparable pride and some great initial results, but not the same tactical acumen from the manager and buy-in from the players

Ha ha, hadn’t realised that. Possibly more a likely coincidence seeing it’s Mbappe and Messi, however I wouldn’t rule out your cynicism here.

Their father was a solid CB who had a solid career, notably in Spain. But both of his sons are very unlikable. Lucas was even sentenced several times by the Spanish justice.
