Maybe a bit of arrogance goes along with a will to win in sports? Thinking of Zlatan Ibrahimovic bundling the ball past an England goalkeeper (?) and the look on his face was one of sheer contempt (with a few words). Also that famous picture of Cassius Clay having floored Sonny Liston - the absolute scorn on his boat!

That Martinez is a right bell aint he. My most disliked player to come out of the tournament.

Top top sports people usually try to invent something in the opposition to give them extra motivation and competitiveness, easy to understand in a sport like boxing where you need to hate the person in front of you. Michael Jordan was largely disliked because of the same thing.
The Argentina keeper is a shithouse, plain and simple. Mbappe I can see uses it for motivation but it comes with arrogance, when he already has the ability (I can't remember the last time Dec missed man and ball).
But there is a line to be drawn, when battle is done you shake hands and go for a beer. You don't goad the opposition, laugh in their face, or hours later, gloat either in the dressing room or in press conferences. It's over at that point.
Didn't our own Dec go ever so slightly beyond in a post match interview re the Dembele winking shenanigans last year?
I guess some people like to see it, some don't.

Although to be fair at least all of Mbappe’s crossed the line!WebmasterFF wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 11:08 pm Still the only bloke to score a hattrick in a World Cup Final and be on the winning side
Mbappe also holds the record for the most goals scored in World Cup finals, which is 4 now.
Would loved to of seen Ronaldo’s face as Messi held the World Cup aloft.

With exactly the same scoring pattern.. just a shame the team that went 2-0 up didn't win on penalties in 06. :cry:BrumHammer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 6:22 pm Exactly. Just because it's a 3-3 final that went down to a shootout, featuring Lionel Scaloni ....
Damn you, Scaloni!

Lionel Scaloni in yet another action packed ectraordinary 3-3 Final that went to Penalties.
He managed the Final well, picking a very brave starting XI taking the game to the World Champions and got his reward. Turning in to a hell of a manager with 2 National Cups in as many years. From the start of the Tournament I always fancied Argentina to get in the Final and to finally win it and they didn't disappoint. Messi for me will always be the greatest and he has little else to prove now.
If he ever fancies the West Ham job, by all means take it, Lionel....
One a separate note regarding Mbappes hat trick breaking Hursts 56 year record, great achievement, although I would add Hurts is still the only "perfect" Hat-Trick in a World Cup Final not having to rely on 2 Penalties to achieve it.

Pretty sure goals in penalty shootouts don't count.claretandblue82 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 3:02 pm Although to be fair at least all of Mbappe’s crossed the line!

How many goals did Mbappe score in open play in the final. ?

How on earth was that weirdo Salt Bae allowed on the pitch and get his hands on the World Cup?
Someone probably had to wangle it to get out of paying their food bill...
