It’s one of my only negatives towards Moyes, and I am one of his biggest supporters on here, but I just never believe we can go and win at any of the ‘Sky 6’ in the league anymore.
To be fair, our poor record against the Gooners in particular isn’t just a Moyes thing, as it’s been a case with a lot of his predecessors. But it just feels like one of the safest bets you can make in football is a David Moyes team not to win at any big 6 clubs. Arsenal can literally fill their entire starting 11 with their regular u21 team, we could play our strongest starting 11 possible and I still wouldn’t fancy us to win. And the problem is the longer your winless run continues against any team, let alone a big 6 team, the more the belief drifts from the players.
Now I don’t expect to beat a top 6 team every single season. I’m not that unreasonable. But when you see the good teams we’ve had the last 2 seasons especially and you see managers, let alone teams a lot worse than Moyes and our team respectively beating the sky 6 clubs on a more regular basis than we do, than questions need to be asked. When you have a record for as long as Moyes has to never beat the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc.when you consider the good teams he’s had at his disposal here, at Everton and even Man Utd, you must be doing something wrong, as surely no one is that unlucky.
I expect another predictable defeat at the Emirates. We’ll huff and puff and fall to another 2-0 defeat. We’ll probably have our token dodgy refereeing decision against us too, which happens whenever we play this mob.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
On the bright side, I think we’ll start to pick up from the Leeds game.
