Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
There’s an excellent docufilm called “the edge” which follows the Flower and Strauss era - which was a truly brilliant time to follow England cricket. It started with that humiliation in the windies to winning the Ashes home and away, to make #1 test team in the world and then ending with the whitewash down under.
Their touring was ridiculous and it was when Trotty was crying at the crease. Finn, Harmison, Sidebottam, Thorpe, Trescothick and even Freddie have all been let down in the past.
So many players were disregarded for years however I like to think that the ECB are managing it much better nowadays.
Personally, I’d reduce ODI to 40 overs and continue to limit those who play across the board.
Have to say I’m looking forward to this year though, should be able to make a few, all being well.

Safrica and Bangladesh games watchable times but 10pm and 1am for NZ games might be a struggle

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
I'd love to go on an NZ tour, such a great place to visit. I was there in 2013 and spent a day at the Wellington test - the crowd was about 90% England fans - entry for 20$NZ - about a tenner at the time.
The schedule looks nuts as ever - the IPL takes up a massive window and the Hundred wiping out August for anything but itself IMO is a massive shame. Those Ireland ODIs couldn't look more of an afterthought if they tried.
That said I'm massively looking forward to the cricket season this year. Test and Limited overs teams looking good. Brook emerging - as Ashes summer where we have half a chance.

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
I'd imagine it's the final decision for the remaining squad places after the NZ series mate. Can't imagine the shoe-ins playing too much in these but three seems a bit OTT.
Guess we'll be in the UAE beforehand for a few warmers.

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
That's a massively packed calendar, yet there's only time for one domestic test series all summer - unless you count the single test vs Ireland crammed in just before the Ashes.
Cricket has too many formats at present. Tests, ODIs, T20 plus the hundred, domestic 40 over etc. It's not sustainable as it is IMO.

That list set out like that is shocking, they are not robots. Fast bowlers will be thinking sod this I am off to join Curran in the IPL earning a fat million for 4 overs twice a week. I love my (Test) cricket but you can have too much of a good thing.

I’d be keen to watch that but put off as no doubt Graeme Swann features in. Got to be the most annoying bloke in the world.PF. wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 6:19 pm There’s an excellent docufilm called “the edge” which follows the Flower and Strauss era - which was a truly brilliant time to follow England cricket. Never forgave Swann for retiring mid-tour. Grade A prick (and not half as funny as he thinks he is).

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
Yeah looking forward to seeing what happens and indeed the year ahead!
Stokes (c), Bairstow and Anderson made the ICC World Test team of the year.
Stokes player of the year - what a man.
Buttler and Curran made the T20’s.

Great to see Archer back, hope he stays fit for him & us. Archer & Wood attack in the Ashes increases our chances quite a bit for me.

Not so sure he'll make the Ashes mate, and he hasn't been included for the New Zealand test squad.Clacton-ammer wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 11:22 am Great to see Archer back, hope he stays fit for him & us. Archer & Wood attack in the Ashes increases our chances quite a bit for me.
I love Wood, but cannot see how you'd leave out any of Jimmy, Broad or Robinson to accommodate. Him or Stone are great alternative to have if any of these three are injured, mind.

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
I like pace, lots of pace, best batters in the world struggle with that providing the pitch offers a little something.
I do though get your point, and you are probably right. I just like pace

Re: England Mens Cricket 2023
Mark Wood struggles playing back-to-back Tests, same with Jimmy at his age. Him and Broad will possibly rotate.
If Archer impresses he’ll certainly make the Ashes and WC squads.
