Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Yeah, look, I’ll work out whether we’re changing the name or doing a separate thread. The original point was about the nature of the squad more than specific players, but we just love transfer rumours.
I see Pickford was mentioned by the West Ham Way, along with all the other names on these last few pages. He’s been in my thoughts a little while, think he’s one of those who can be top quality, but isn’t seen that way because of his character.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Lots of rumours, names as usual.
Thing is absent significant incomings from sales I suspect we are likely looking at a budget of circa £80m tops if we get Europe next season so can budget for that, closer to £60m if we do not. Our drop in league position has seen something like £15m - £20m wiped off the revenue.
That is a maximum of 5 but more likely 4 decent players, ie more than squad players such as Downes but capable of an immediate first team impact if needed.
It is why renewals and extensions are so important. Extend Fab and keeper is sorted until next summer. We all want new FB but unless we lose 2 of the current 3 RB is not a priority. Same for striker, it is only likely we add if one or more leaves.
CB (irrespective of whether we extend Oggie) and LB are clear priorities as I suspect will be another midfielder irrespective of the Rice situation. If we are in Europe, we are losing Lanzini who played a lot of the European games and we really could do with another in there to compete with/relegate Soucek. I also suspect that they will look to someone who can operate across the attacking midfield ideally centrally/right to cover the 10 role and, as needed, Bowen.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Pickford is an odd signing for us to look at because if we keep Fabianski we're not really struggling for goalkeeping options right now. If we don't keep Fabianski we need to sign a new keeper but can't imaging Areola would be too happy to play second fiddle to a new signing and continue as our reserve keeper, but neither would Pickford nor would he expect or or sign on for that.
The only way I see us looking seriously at Pickford is if we are re-signing Fabianski and looking to sell Areola.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Pickford gets called out as he has an obvious flaw which can be exploited at times (hence the T rex arms joke) but is an excellent all round keeper.
De Gea has just won the golden glove and yet we all saw the clanger against us. I do think keepers are harshly judged.
But yes he isn't a big step up from our current two for what he'd cost and I can only see it if Areola is offski.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
After years of neglecting to spend on the GK position it would be very us to spend circa £30m on one when it’s probably the least pressing need

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Another point is whether Vlasic is coming back - if we made it to Europe he could do the Lanzini role with the ability to play wide if needed too.
So many clubs seem to have success with kids from City - if we have Europe that's a great place to blood them, I'd love us to get to the point we are looking a season or two ahead with these signings, but when we do it they don't seem to work that well, Frederik Alves doesn't seem to have been pulling up trees in Denmark and Albian Ajeti has many more yellow cards than goals on loan in Austria this year.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
We should just get Traore, ASM, and play them with Benrahma, behind Antonio
It will be the most terrifying/pain in the neck front line for opposition to play against, while simultaneously having zero end product

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
It sounds as though Vlasic is wanted by Torino on a permanent basis:
"“Vlasic and Miranchuk are not under examination, we are very satisfied with the year they had, with how they played, how they behaved. They both did excellent with the prospect of doing even better next year,” said Juric (Torino coach)"

Looks like he's played as a wing back in France, scored six.

27 shots with 3 on target every match! They'd need riot shields for the fans behind the goals even at our place.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
I think he's wanted, but they can't appear too keen as they're haggling over price; they don't want to pay the already heavily discounted option price.bubbles1966 wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 4:45 pm It sounds as though Vlasic is wanted by Torino on a permanent basis:

If Vlasic wants to go there and we see no future for him, I reckon they have us over a barrel.johnnyboy123 wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 4:56 pm I think he's wanted, but they can't appear too keen as they're haggling over price; they don't want to pay the already heavily discounted option price.

Re: Summer Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo
Been lots of debate about who should be in charge of transfer decisions etc
I vote that it’s not the guy who thinks signing Tavares would be a good idea.
