Songs that blew you away
Songs that when you first heard them, absolutely stopped you in your tracks and blew you away.
Had Virgin Radio on this morning and this nugget came on and it reminded me of how I felt the first time I heard it.

Re: Songs that blew you away
A cherished twelve that I still to this very day hear coming through the walls of my son's bedroom.
Captured a moment perfectly.

Re: Songs that blew you away
As soon as I heard the drop D, first fret intro riff I was like "wtf"! It was on some late night rock programme on TV, just got back from the pub, was round a mates. I'd just started learning guitar, and we were jamming on unplugged in electrics (mine was a cheap StarForce strat copy, his was a squire) and the song was introduced.
My jaw hit the floor and the following five mins were spent in reverential silence, followed by a deep exploration of Panteras back catalogue over the next few weeks.
I was lucky enough to see them live at Donington in 1994.
Rest easy Vinnie and Dime...sorely missed.

The first time I ever heard this was over the PA of an Oddbins off licence. I had no idea who it was, I just knew that I loved it. A week later I bought Orbital's Green album, and was delighted to find that the final track was That Tune From Oddbins.:

Opening track on Vulgar. Within seconds of the main riff dropping, I distinctly remember thinking “this is EXACTLY what music is meant to sound like”. Seemed so much more focussed and potent than a lot of the thrash stuff my mates were into at the time, and was my gateway to legit hardcore.

In the sense that you hear something for the first time, end up playing it over and over again and it has a profound (sometimes life-changing) impact... in chronological order... eight of many.

Beautiful. I have this somewhere (but not on the Ambient Works album as I thought!)

Re: Songs that blew you away
Heard this being played on a record player in a department store when I was 14 years old and bought it straight away, the single, not the record player!

I was in the gym when I first heard this. It came on the TV and gave me feels on the treadmill. Generally not a big Nirvana fan but it was a real "I'll always remember....." moment.

Re: Songs that blew you away
I was 8 when my big sister bought this home. I didn't really know what was going on but the guitars seemed to talk to me and I played the album end-on-end for yonks, and still give it a whirl every now and then.....
