Don't know much about desert island discs but I assume you name your 8 favourite songs plus a book & something else you love. So here goes.

DISC ONE: What's Going On by Marvin Gaye (Why the f*ck am I stranded on a desert island)
DISC TWO: Expansions by Lonnie Liston Smith (for dancing)
DISC THREE: Cold Sweat by James Brown (for more dancing)
DISC FOUR: Children's Story by Slick Rick (Britain's best ever rapper)
DISC FIVE: Golden Brown by The Stranglers (to calm me down)
DISC SIX: Home Is Where The Hatred Is by Gil Scott Heron (helped me through some very rough times in London in my 20s)
DISC SEVEN: Emergency on Planet Earth by Jamiroquai (love his voice)
DISC EIGHT: Belfast HQ by Orbital (just f*cking trippy)

BOOK CHOICE: My favourite book is Happy Isles of Oceania by Paul Theroux but if I'm stuck on a desert island that might not be something I'd want to read so I'll go with Running with the Mind of Meditation by Sakyong Mipham because running & meditating might be my lifeline to survival.
LUXURY ITEM: Giant jar of Marmite. A tiny dab on my tongue before bed.
CASTAWAY'S FAVOURITE: What's Going On?
