This did make me chuckle :crylol: I can only name the one song of theirs as well LC, know them better for the link to Cast.
Great shout on that Misfits compilation too. Whenever I fancy a singalong I normally give some of those tracks a listen. Bullet, Horror Business, Teenagers From Mars and Ghouls Night Out are particular favourites.

Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore East
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

Don't know if soundtracks are allowed.
If so, then: Repo Man soundtrack

If not, then: Bob Marley - Legend

Something old, something new(ish), something ... also old.

I bought this one at the time it came out, lured by the Dead Kennedys entry, and introduced by it to the world of US hardcore: Black Flag! Circle Jerks! Geza X! DOA! Bad Brains!!! https://www.discogs.com/master/28754-Va ... Jellybeans

Image

This one was also bought when it came out, as result of XFM's launch and subsequent discovery of hordes of energetic new bands after several wasteland years.

And this was found years after its release, and a massive nostalgia re-wind back to the heights of the Punk/New Wave era. There are a couple of different versions of this album, but this one is is the full fat 4 CD version, mostly but not exactly like this: https://www.discogs.com/release/384475- ... -Rebellion

On further reflection, Virtual Dreams: Ambient Explorations In The House & Techno Age 1993-1997. This was great.

I read the OP for the week as being one album from each category listed i.e.

- a greatest hits
- a compilation or mix
- a reissue

So I have chosen on that basis:

New Order - Substance
All their 12" singles from Ceremony to True Faith, plus almost all the B-sides, which are virtually as good as the A-sides.

Carl Cox - FACT
A double CD of mid-90s techno and trance, mixed on three decks by one of the greatest DJs ever.

The Compleat British Sea Power
The Decline Of British Sea Power, expanded from 11 to 57 songs, with some absolute gems in the extra tracks including this beauty, recorded with Ecstasy of St Theresa.

For some reason, The La's and more importantly Lee Mavers is citied as a big influence to many bands that immediately followed around that late 80s early 90s era.

They can't all be wrong shirley?

Of course they can, eggy! An opinion isn't necessarily correct just because a lot of people hold that opinion. The Spice Girls, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, that awful Baddest of Them All record my wife listens to incessantly, UB40, Phil Collins, The Wildhearts... a lot of people have enjoyed these entities and they're all wrong, wrong, wrong.

Where is this La's influence? Aside from a set of cereal bowls in the cupboard here at casa.caress which were clearly heavily influenced by Lee Mavers' hairstyle, I'm not seeing it.

I'll give Mavers this, though: According to Wikipedia, he himself has decried that La's album on numerous occasions. Maybe he's onto something there.

There, cereal, goes! There cereal goes, again!

Indeed KH … Elsie doesn’t like them one iota!!

Great album and an excellent live show - saw them in London just after it was released. There She Gies isn’t their best song IMO.

Wasn't sure who The La's were so had a quick Google. Must say what showed up was one of the most annoying songs of my childhood. I'm not saying it's on Chumbawamba scale of hatred, but i'm definitely in the LC camp from my ever so brief search.

Much as I felt the La's were very overrated, the band their bassist formed when they split up, Cast, were 10 times worse. Horribly whiny vocals over bland Britpoppy tunes. The only thing they ever inspired was extreme nausea whenever I heard them on the radio.

File The La's alongside The Sundays, round my place.

I can't be bothered with either, when it comes to the crunch. Can see that they're popular, but just don't really feel anything either way.

What opinion?

The view is/was that The La's have been influential. That doesn't mean they're a great band.

Been plenty when I was younger but in this day of Spotify even the much loved home cassette compilation has become redundant.

Now it's a rubbish record as well, but maybe i might have a tiny bit more respect for at least trying something a bit more, i don't know, "genuine"?

Or even less, seeing as they left their roots to make the torture track that is Tubthumping. Either way, i can't say imagine i'll be buying their greatest hits collection any time soon.
