Best Selling Artists

Post by Shabu »

Apparently this is a map of the best selling artists by English counties.

I thought Elton John was from Luton not London.

I've never heard of half of these bands :crossed:

I always confuse Keane, Gene, Mansun and Muse. Any chance we could ship all four bands out? It would fill up the plane a bit more, and it would do me a proper solid. Cheers! xxx

Worcestershire looks on in shame.

There are some shockers on there but least Gary Barlow has had a proper career in music spanning several decades and some recognisable tracks, regardless of whether those tracks make you want to vomit blood. Cher Lloyd is an X-Factor loser whose music you'd barely be able to identify if she was standing in front of you with a microphone singing it.

I am, to say the least, a tad sceptical of this map. Where did the data coming from? I find it rather hard to believe that minor selling bands like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Abba etc didn't outsell ****ing Spooky Tooth in Cumberland, for example - in pretty much any year.

You've misinterpreted the graphic mate.

Those are the biggest selling artists who originated from each county. I don't think Michael Jackson was born in Cumbria.

Even then - I'm not convinced that Brian Eno has outsold Ed Sheeran, for example

The guy who put this together did it a few years ago and has since commented that someone like Sheeran would be on it.

The Bee Gee's not being on the initial effort is probably more of an oversight than anything, unless they've somehow been attached to the Isle of Man as opposed to Manchester.

I'm surprised Duran Duran are number one from Birmingham.

I would have thought UB40 would be that city's best selling

That'll be it. The twins were 5 (Barry was 8) when they moved to M/cr. Similarly, ONJ was 5 when her family emigrated to Oz.

Not sure with pin point precision on that map where Cambridge is, but I know that none of Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Marillion, Olivia Newton-John or Radiohead have outsold Pink Floyd.

Might have done, if you add together records made and produced.

I'm just disappointed that he outsold fellow Cheshire man Russ Abbott, his stuff did have 'Atmosphere'

A cursory look at the internet suggests UB40 and Black Sabbath both have around 70 million sales while Duran Duran have 100 million. There's no accounting for taste ;)
