Nintendo Wii Question
Was thinking about getting my kid a cheap Nintendo Wii from Ebay (and I guess it might be for me a little bit too). We have a 55" 4k TV - how is a console this old going to look on such a thing?

Re: Nintendo Wii Question
Not very good. IIRC, the original Wii outputs at 480p, approx 300,000 pixels. 4k is 8,000,000 pixels or so, so that’s a hell of an up scaling job, plus it doesn’t have an HDMI output so you’ll need some sort of converter.
Not sure if the Wii U is as readily available but could be worth considering that instead as it’ll play original Wii games too.

Re: Nintendo Wii Question
Buy a Wii U it's output is 1080p via a HDMI but I think it upscales Wii games. It can play Wii Games all the Wii Accessories work etc.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 10:04 am Was thinking about getting my kid a cheap Nintendo Wii from Ebay (and I guess it might be for me a little bit too). I bought one recently from CEX they're about £100, it's good to play some classics namely Super Mario Galaxy!
Also Wii U has some great titles which got ported to Switch and the games are so cheap!

Re: Nintendo Wii Question
That's still double what I wanted to pay really... unless I hold off and get him one for Christmas instead. To be honest, if I had more than a 100 saved up for it, I might accidentally spend it on a Retroid 3+ for me instead!Mullhull wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 4:46 pm Buy a Wii U it's output is 1080p via a HDMI but I think it upscales Wii games. To be honest with you mate, with that retroid thing you'd be better off spending that money on a New 3/2DS XL and modding it.

Re: Nintendo Wii Question
If you’re on a budget, how about converting an old laptop, desktop or firestick or whatever and installing retroarch? Depending on hardware, you can load just about anything up to PS2 (although Wii stuff is tricky due to the controllers).

Re: Nintendo Wii Question
To be honest the Wii was never about appearances and more about the fun gameplay.

Plug and play, I’d guess, but looks to be the best way to connect a Wii over hdmi.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 4:02 pm Have you used one of those before? Just wondering how well they work
