⚽ West Ham Utd 1-0 Southampton: (2/4/23)

Post by Roby »

My brother has just got us two tickets for this game so I’ll be at the bowl for this one...

Absolutely massive game which let us be honest, is pretty much a must win.

Ings up front against one of his old clubs? Or go with Antonio’s power and pace?
Zouma and Aguerd as the centre half pairing?
Is Coufal fit enough to play on the right?

First goal is key I think but we need to be VERY wary of Ward Prowse’s set pieces.

A nervy 2-1 win for us hopefully.

I'd play our best striker Scamacca with Bowen and Benrahma either side.

Downes, Rice and Paqueta in midfield.

Kehrer - Zouma - Aguerd - Emerson at the back.

Thanks for starting the post Roby.

Anything but a win would mean our confidence for remaining fixtures will be very low.

Southampton will try and get the crowd to turn on us and they have some decent players.

Ultimately though they are under enormous pressure for the win you and I just think our quality will be enough in the end.

2-0 to us and we won't look back from there.

I think it's a must win but fear in Moyes' mantra, a must not lose, especially with ECL so soon after. As has been said before, I don't think any of our lot realise we're in a relegation battle and even if they did, it's closer than they think!

Areola

Coufal Zouma Aguerd Emerson

Lanzini Rice Paqueta

Bowen Scamacca Benrahma

Get at them from the start and can see us winning comfortably. Get the fans involved early on by being at Home too. Do that then I can see us winning 3-0.

Have Soucek on the bench for when they bring on Onuachu.
Otherwise likely Soucek has to play full 90 and that limits our options to change up the game.

Gonna be a battle so I'd start Fornals above Lanzini. Still good passer but a bit more tenacity.

I like it but, swap Cornet in for Bennie, think that midfield three needs a bit more tracking back on the left.

Win and we could be 14th.

Lose and we could be bottom.

A draw isn't a terrible result mathematically but it's really not what us fans want.

Prior to the 3 all draw with Spurs they'd only scored 1 goal in 4 games. Or 3 goals in 9.

But they did beat Chelsea (maybe not that hard) & draw with Man Utd.

Not sure what tactics would be best but I'll go with ATTACK!!!

My team...

Areola
Ogbonna Zouma Aguerd
Bowen Rice Paqueta Fornals
Ings Scamacca Cornet

Antonio, Benrahma & Lanzini all good at coming of the bench and scoring.

We win 7-5

I personally can't see past a home win, here.

Like Villa, until recently, Southampton have struggled against us. We however only got one point against them last season (and we got knocked out of the cup by them).

I think they massively lucked out in terms of the equaliser they got given last week.

We've quite simply got to take the game to them and press them from the get go. Keep Soucek alongside Rice and give three technically capable players places to create for Scam in front of the pair.

If we start with, say Bowen - Paq - Benrahma, these three have got to play as if they know that a flat performance leads to their being subbed in favour of Fornals - Lanzini - Cornet

A win here shows heart and determination, not just to stay up, but to be in the first eleven going forward (and into Europe)

It's like Ben Stillers spoof in Tropic Thunder, when he needs to save the world again, again.

Another must win again, again..

I predict a nervy 2-1 win, somehow.

If we draw this I do not want to read one person saying its not an horrendous result, no matter the context.
