Funniest thing about that post is the suggestion that Ramos would make anything other than an All-Time Shithouse XI.

Re: AI picks the best XI of all time (non WHU?)
Always makes me laugh that Roberto Carlos is even a contender for these kinds of discussions. An entire footballing reputation based on one freak free-kick in a glorified friendly.
Doubt he'd make a top ten LBs of the time I've been watching football, let alone the decades before that.
EDIT:
To put a little extra context on this, as every write-up that you read about Roberto Carlos always talks about what an incredible free kick taker he was...
Roberto Carlos took 382 direct free kicks in La Liga and scored 16 goals = a 4.6% conversion rate.
The average - AVERAGE - of ALL Premier League shots taken from free kicks is a 5.6% conversion rate.
James Ward-Prowse has a 15.2% conversion rate
A very good footballer, not a great one, and should be nowhere near any Best Of All Time discussions.

Best was one of the greatest players ever.I think Yashin or Banks would have been in goal? Why Cafu?Surely better than that?

That team would get it’s arse handed to it by any mid way competent team with a disciplined defence and ability to counter attack.
It’s also an absolute crime that there are no Spaniards in there. Peak Xavi and Iniesta would be the fulcrum of any team for me.

Why can't Shearer, Lineker and Richards discuss that on BBC Three ?StevePottsGoalsReel wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 10:46 am Funniest thing about that post is the suggestion that Ramos would make anything other than an All-Time Shithouse XI.
Today on MoTD Bitesize we pick our all time cheating shithouse x1.

Won two world cups from three finals appearances. Difficult to argue there’s anyone better at an international level.Crouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 10:13 pm Pretty strong line up that
There must be a better all time RB than Cafu though

He was a lot, lot worse at taking free-kicks, which is the only comparison being made here (but also a huge part of his inflated reputation).

But he won his medals as part of a team, plenty of great players played in teams that never won a world cup.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:47 am Won two world cups from three finals appearances. Difficult to argue there’s anyone better at an international level.

Bobby Moore won 100% of the World Cup finals he played ( captained in )dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:47 am Won two world cups from three finals appearances. Difficult to argue there’s anyone better at an international level.
Playing in World Cup finals is not an indication of being an all time great …

Re: AI picks the best XI of all time (non WHU?)
I just asked Chat GPT: "What is West Ham United's all time greatest team, including players from all eras?"
I have to say, I was pretty impressed with what it came up with. When AI realises that there are eleven players in a football team, we'll know that computers are ready to take over the world:
West Ham United has had many great players throughout its history, so it's difficult to pick just one team as the greatest of all time. However, based on their achievements and contributions to the club, the following lineup could be considered as one of West Ham's all-time greatest teams:
Goalkeeper:
Phil Parkes - He played for West Ham from 1979 to 1988, making over 400 appearances and helping the team to win the FA Cup in 1980.
Defenders:
Bobby Moore - The legendary defender played for West Ham from 1958 to 1974 and captained the club to win the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 and the FA Cup in 1964 and 1975.
Billy Bonds - He played for West Ham from 1967 to 1988, making over 800 appearances, captaining the team to win the FA Cup in 1980, and being named the Hammer of the Year four times.
Alvin Martin - He played for West Ham from 1976 to 1996, making over 550 appearances and being part of the team that won the FA Cup in 1980.
Midfielders:
Trevor Brooking - He played for West Ham from 1967 to 1984, making over 600 appearances, scoring 102 goals, and being part of the team that won the FA Cup in 1975 and 1980.
Martin Peters - He played for West Ham from 1959 to 1970, making over 300 appearances, scoring 100 goals, and being part of the team that won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 and the World Cup with England in 1966.
Scott Parker - He played for West Ham from 2007 to 2011, making over 100 appearances and being named the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year in 2011.
Forwards:
Geoff Hurst - He played for West Ham from 1959 to 1972, making over 400 appearances, scoring 242 goals, and being part of the team that won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 and the World Cup with England in 1966.
Paolo Di Canio - He played for West Ham from 1999 to 2003, making over 100 appearances, scoring 51 goals, and being named the Hammer of the Year twice.
Vic Watson - He played for West Ham from 1920 to 1935, making over 500 appearances and scoring a club record 326 goals.

Re: AI picks the best XI of all time (non WHU?)
When I pointed out that the lineup was one player short, it apologised and added Sir Trevor Brooking. When explained that Trevor Brooking and Sir Trevor Brooking were the same person, and requested a fourth defender, it added Ray Stewart:
Goalkeeper:
Phil Parkes
Defenders:
Bobby Moore
Billy Bonds
Alvin Martin
Ray Stewart
Midfielders:
Trevor Brooking
Martin Peters
Scott Parker
Forwards:
Geoff Hurst
Paolo Di Canio
Vic Watson

Re: AI picks the best XI of all time (non WHU?)
Think I'd be tempted to get Baresi to do a job at right back so that I could have Moore in there with Beckenbauer.
I also think they have the wrong Ronaldo in there. Pele up top with Ronaldo (both Brazil) works better for me. With Maradona Cruyff and Messi in behind them.
Close call between Zidane and Xavi, but considering it is a holding role, I think I'd go Xavi. Zidane would have to fight for one of the three places behind the front two.
Could be accused of square pegs and round holes a little bit there... but the team is so good, I'm not sure it matters.
