⚽ West Ham Utd 1-5 Newcastle Utd (5/4/23)
West Ham Utd take on Newcastle Utd at the London stadium on Wednesday 5th of April. Kick off 8pm.
Another massive game on Wednesday. I’m going for a 1-1 draw and I would go with this team depending on injuries.
Fabianski
Coufal Zouma Aguerd Emerson
Rice Paqueta Fornals
Bowen Antonio Benrahma
Subs: Areola, Kehrer, Cresswell,Ogbonna, Lanzini, Cornet, Ings, Soucek, Downes.

Re: West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match Thread
In this poor, sketchy, season, we have played 9 teams twice.
We are unbeaten against Villa and Southampton (our points against them account for c. 30% of our total).
We could make it 3/10 with this lot, who scored two great team goals last afternoon.
I'd be perfectly content myself with a boring clean sheet draw (although accept that this is hardly entertaining for the ticket-buying attendees).

Re: West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match Thread
Pointless anyone posting formations as Moyes will 100% go with the same starting XI if they are all fit and well.
We will sit deep, try our best not to leave half a pitch for Maximan to run into and do all we can to grind out a draw.
Fingers crossed we see a bit of a 'after the lord mayors show' performance from them (they were celebrating the win over Man Utd like they'd finished the season in top four), a sneaky little home win would be amazing but I'd certainly take a point and roll into the Fulham game looking for a win now. I don't really care if it isn't that pretty at this point in time either (pains me to say that).

I think this is the 11 Sep game I had tickets for, alas back in NZ now, I’m expecting an unlikely but comfortable win

Yes, it is the game from the week the Queen passed away.Kiwi Iron II wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 8:34 am I think this is the 11 Sep game I had tickets for, alas back in NZ now, I’m expecting an unlikely but comfortable win
You can re list your tickets FYI... someone will snap them up and you should get most of your money back.

I emailed the club and explained we would exit the UK before the rescheduled match date, they refunded the purchase

Question?
If Paqueta now is doing the dirty work in alongside Rice, and doing it well, what is the actual point of Soucek in the 10 role?
Deffo start Formals or Lanzini in the 10 behind Antonio, bring on Ings for last 30 in a role reversal with Antonio, save Scam for Europe

Keep yesterdays back line, bring Downes in for Soucek to give energy countering Newcastles usual high power first 60mins, swapping with Fornals if we are in with any chance of a win with 20-30 to go. Far from convinced by Antonio these days but I’d start him in place of Ings who simply can’t play alone up top, and give Cornet a run in place of Benny which will stop Trippier coming forward so much as he’s a bit vulnerable to real pace.

Kehrer Zouma Aguerd Emerson
Rice Paqueta Downes

Zero chance Moyes drops Soucek for Wednesday. Only way he isn't on that team sheet is if he picked up an injury.
He clearly sees him as another reliable body in the middle of the park to stifle the opposition.
For me, Soucek absolutely needs to be replaced. It is the removing of the handbrake that we need, we'd be a much better team to watch and we could even end up having a half decent season.
Any one of the following as a midfield trio would transform us for the run in;

Think we’ll get punished if we produce anything close to yesterday. Surely he can’t play Soucek, surely!
Thought Downes did well yesterday and Paqueta although sloppy was high energy.
I’d go

If we both play like we did yesterday then we're in big trouble.
A point would be like a win in the current climate.

No point playing Ings as he will get nothing out of newcastle if we play how we have.
Very different game with Guimaraes and Isak fit. I'd take a point right now and move on to Fulham.
I'd play Fornals for Downes as he is good at releasing the counter attack.
Coufal in for Kehrer who had a good game yesterday but ASM will get in behind him.

I wonder if Zouma will be fit or was injured at the end of the game - he was clattered right at the end?

Re: West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match Thread
a tough game and a few steps up from yesterday. can we rise to the challenge.
soucek cant start as he is no more than a plodder in midfield at the moment.
fab
coufal zouma augerd emerson
rice paq downes
bowen antonio cornet
subs areola kehrer ogbonna johnson lanzini soucek ings benrahma fornals
1-0 bowen and fab MOTM
hopefully the crowd and team are up for it. if you are attending then get behind the team and make some noise as we need a good atmosphere to get the team up for it. a slow start will kill us but an electric fast start by the hammers might just catch newcastle out.
on paper they will see this as an easy win after beating man utd. WHU have a history of causing upsets; lets hope this match is one of them.

Any doubt bring Oggy in. Marathon not a sprint in April and Ogbonna is better in the inevitable low block for this game.
I'd rather have Zouma for Fulham.
Really important to manage game time this month.

Re: West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match Thread
It makes no logical sense based on what we all watched yesterday but I actually think we might win this game.
