I believe Raffaella Carra was in a version of this

TOTP
Was a staple of your TV diet growing up
I’m pleased I gave those memories as much as it’s great today you can play music now anytime from anywhere
Those memories of listening to the top 40 on the radio trying to tape the songs you liked without the DJ talking and then seeing the acts on TOTP often your only chance other than Saturday morning TV possibly

Mudd! Recall that shoulders-back dipping 'biker's dance' from the 70's!

Re: The Top of the Pops Thread
There’s been some f*cking stinkers recently. Stuff from the late 80s & early 90s. Literally not a single redeeming track, video or performance on them. No wonder Britpop took over in the mid 90s.

Are all the Saville ones consigned to the bin or do they just edit the creepy old pervy nonce out completely?

No Saville, and I don’t think they’ve shown any DLT-hosted ones either. Fortunately, I don’t think Tim Westwood ever presented any episodes, the creepy twat

Re: The Top of the Pops Thread
Considering there's probably some legendary stuff in these shows, surely the BBC can just edit the Hairy Cornflake and Tracksuit perv out?

I don’t imagine the Beeb wants to draw attention to the vast number of nonces they employed, if they can avoid it, given that nobody had their collar felt for protecting them.

Same here TOMoS
This is my favourite clip from The Skids on TOTP. Apparently Adamson and Jobson were at loggerheads during rehearsals and Adamson was close to walking out. There does seem some anger being vented in their performance.
Great song but Jobson’s Barnet ??!!

Re: The Top of the Pops Thread
Funnily enough, I came across this song for the first time the other day - written to sound like it was an English language song but in fact was total gibberish. Adriano Celentano was name checked by Ian Dury in Reasons To Be Cheerful Part 3. Couldn’t find that performed on ToTP, but found this which also reminded me of the cheesy costumes that the producers would sometimes get the bands to wear!Larrakeyah Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 1:32 pm I believe Raffaella Carra was in a version of this
Also featuring Wilco Johnson as a Blockhead.

I do also remember a clip from the 70’s when Roger Daltrey was co-hosting and as The Village People were being introduced, Daltrey commented “backs to the walls next”, or words to that effect.

There is something compelling and hypnotic about this song . There is a great black & white video very different
You wouldn’t know it was done in the 70’s but it keeps going missing on YouTube
I discovered it about 10 years ago

Re: The Top of the Pops Thread
I've posted this before, but.........
My mate was playing in a very serious angsty post-punk Cure/Krautrock inspired band in the late 80s, and making ends meet by working in the guitar department of one of the Tin Pan Alley music shops.
One day a bloke came in to the shop and said he needed some musicians that would form a "band" to do a few days touring, just miming at a few clubs and events to promote Belinda Carlisle's new single. 100 quid a day. So my mate took it on, thinking that absolutely nobody would ever know and his credibility would remain intact.
Little did he know that he would be stood right up front on a TV appearance. Meet Leon, definitely the most reluctant ever performer on Top of the Pops. Still makes me chuckle.
