It could have been a pen just for the lunge. Yes he got the ball but that type of challenge being off the floor, is considered out of control. I think it would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch.

I wondered this myself.
You can get a red for dangerous play, you don't actually have to make contact.
But does that still constitute a free kick (or pen)? because its not actually a foul.
So if a dangerous tackle followed by a hand ball, could you see a red for the tackle but then it negates the hand ball because after?
Not that it matters as we got sod all. But my mind wanders....
If someone punches someone and gets a red does the victims team get a free kick or "drop ball "
