Would normally have a day at the Lord's Test but not paying 150 quid. Will stick with Essex at Chelmsford.

Archer injured again, they can't seem to be able to fix that elbow.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/65531254

"Archer had minor surgery on his right elbow earlier in April after missing four IPL matches.

It was Archer's fifth surgery on the area in the past two years, having first struggled with the problem during England's tour of India in 2021."

He's crickets Andy Carroll. I know you can't help being injured, but, it's a waste of a contract.

So Bairstow on the basis of one good summer ar test level as opposed to plenty of other poor ones, is now indispensable over the number one keeper in the world.

To me it's another nail in the coffin of 4 and 5 day players with bazball making test cricket a white ball approach.

Foakes must be so pissed off.

Agreed, although Bairstow's form last year was so outstanding that he couldn't be left out. Which sort of begs the question if not Foakes, then who else?

Just got to hope Bairstow can get close to repeating last year's heroics. He certainly can't surpass them - can he?

I know there was talk about Crawley being the other guy at risk but realistically they were never throwing in Bairstow to open against this Aussie attack.

I feel like the one who can count himself very lucky is Pope. He's had some good knocks over the last 12 months but his second innings average is still down in the teens. Feels like they could have pushed Root/Brook/Stokes up one and brought Bairstow in for Pope.

All very harsh on Foakes. Shame he doesn't have the white ball pedigree to stick a middle finger up at them and go hunting for cash while all of this plays out to it's inevitable conclusion (Crawley getting dropped).

I wonder if Foakes holing out in the NZ game when we were less than 10 runs away sealed his fate?

Hopefully we see Bairstow playing like he did last year and not a return to him being constantly bowled through the gate and then looking at the pitch in mock horror...
