Superleague season starts on Thursday evening with the Hull derby.
London kick off on Friday at St Helen’s- about as tough a start as any newly promoted team could have.

As far as I’m aware BBC are showing some Superleague games this season- if you’ve never watched a game before give it a go, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

15 live games on prime time, free to air, terrestrial TV

Good to see, will help the casual fans like myself go a bit deeper into the game.

Wigan 16-4 up on Castleford tonight, on BBC2 now.

Looking forward to see if Leeds can improve this season - have followed them since I was a student in Headingley in the 80s. It was much more fun than going to Elland Road to watch live sport.

Also noticed that the Australian NRL starts on 3 March, with a couple of games in Las Vegas. Will be interested to see what the locals make of it.

Fartown are my side, on the telly tonight.

At its best Rugby league is absolutely thrilling.

In their day, before defecting, Edwards, Farrell, Robinson, Offiah were fabulous.

I once saw Edwards, playing for Wigan against Halifax, he let 'fax run through a few sets of 6, then, i can still see it in my minds eye, Edwards stepped into the line when Wigan had the ball, and was sending out perfect passes left and right that cut 'fax to shreds.

5 mins later, Wigan had scored 3 converted tries under the sticks. Game over.

Without a doubt the best player i ever saw, and ive seen the very best Aussies, Tallis, Meninga, Johns, Lewis, Lamb, sterling,Daley, Fittler........i wouldnt pick one of them to win me a game ahead of Edwards.

And Farrell, senior, was a vastly better rugby player than his son.

Not in Union, he wasn’t. I’m no great fan of Owen, but for a good few years he was the best rugby player in Europe.

Elllery Hanley started a course at Leeds Metropolitan University (Polytechnic in old money) when I was there. He was a nice chap but one huge unit … you really had to squeeze in if you passed him in the corridor!

Not the first time Sky have stuffed up kick off times.

About 10-12 seasons ago London were due to play Catalan Dragons in Perpignan on a Saturday evening , most of the London support who travelled over were on flights back home before the game started as Sky did a short notice change and had the game kick off on the Sunday instead.

Blimey, that was a classic.

Came down to a 'try' right on the hooter not given on-field and an agonising video ref rewind session....NO TRY.

Some of Wigan's defending was beyond courageous, defended for their lives for 80 minutes and for home 16-12.

Wigan Warriors are World Champions.

That was quite exciting.
Wigan may have been a tad fortunate at the end. That said I don't think their try should have been disallowed. On the freeze frame the ball had left the kickers boot. Pity.

If you're giving the Wigan one early in the 2nd half then you're giving the Panthers one at the death, but overall the better team, the ones who wanted it more, won.

Attended the Huddersfield Giants vs St Helens match today.

It was a no contest.

Hudds never even looked like scoring.

Attendance was just under 7,000. Decent following from the Saints fans in fairness I thought.

Huddersfield’s fan zone was decent too. Reasonably priced beer, coffee, burgers etc.

Not a patch on Headingley, mind.

That was a cracker of a match, the atmosphere was fantastic - they do like their RL in Wigan. The camera focussed on my mate and his son gurning into the camera at the end.

Superb comeback from Rhinos.

Need to stop giving the opposition a headstart, mind.
