Berlin travel for the final - any advice?

Post by rhyzb_whufc »

Not wanting to tempt fate of course, but me and a mate planning on heading out for the final if we win on Wednesday.

Obviously flight prices to Berlin are already on a rapid rise, but we might have to just suck it up. Wondering if anyone had experience of travelling to a different euro city and then getting a train to Germany/Berlin?

Looking at Prague, Wroclaw or Warsaw then heading across - but any advice would be appreciated! 👍🏻

Have your papers ready for inspection and don’t reply in English if a guard wishes you good luck.

Not a bad option if flying to another German city or neighbouring country at least, the network is pretty good and runs through the night.....

BUT, and its a big but, leave plenty of time - I was out in Germany for three days around the time of the Slovenia game and the trains were really badly delayed on all three days - almost every train on the board in Cologne and Frankfurt were delayed by 30 minutes or more and many cancelled - and apparently its well known that Deutsche Bahn are in a bit of a state - in fact the British trains are almost Swiss levels of punctuality in comparison

Cheers mate, that's handy to know! Surprising as well, as you'd presume the Germans have everything so efficiently organised - maybe the stereotype is a little off

Think we'll be going the day before at the very least, but will bear in mind to make exception for train delays.

Hamburg is a good shout. It is only 1hr 46min to Berlin on the train or 3hr 30min drive if you want to hire a car.

Even Hamburg flights have gone up substantially, but certainly a better option than Berlin direct! Appreciate the info all

Ponzan in Poland not too far either. Again, flight gone up for there too.
Amsterdam another option, go there Saturday, night out, early train to Berlin the next morning.

Night out in Amsterdam always a consideration! Although if we could be in Berlin the night before to 'soak it up' then that would be ideal
