Depends how much Potter wants to play a particular way. As there’s no point demanding your team to play it out from the back if your goalkeeper isn’t good with his feet.

It all starts from the keeper, when attempting to build up an attack. You can’t do that if your goalkeeper is constantly kicking the ball back to the opposition. The plan goes out the window immediately.

If Potter changes the tactics so we don’t have to do that, fine. Areola is a perfectly good shot stopper on his day. But if from what I’ve seen of his tactics so far, it’s not going to work if you’re going to ask your keeper to play the way we’ve seen.

Goalkeeper, the 2 central midfielders and having the right options at CF for me is what will be the difference between Potterball succeeding here or not next season.

I still want 1 reliable CH to come in also, so we don’t rely too much on Kilman.

The thing is a good keeper sets the system for the team. we all know areola is poor on crosses and fab is too old and slow. so we must bring in a new keeper. kellerer from liverpool would be my choice and yes he costs but is 26 years old and an experienced keeper.

we need to upgrade on fullbacks and cover for them. emerson needs to be sold as been poor. leaving AWB and scarles as main fullbacks and coufal who at 32 needs replacing but does put a shift in. walker-peters can play both sides and on a free in the summer. a no brainer.

CB- a major problem as we only really have kilman and who ever is fit enough to play with him . tolido is always injured, mavropanos is not good enough and casey too young. so I would sell mavrospanos for around 10m and bring in two new ones; webster and another.

midfielders are required and we should look to get rid of soler and rodriguez for starters. probably irving goes as well. leaves soucek and JWP plus paqueta who will be either banned or off. 3 needed banzuzi, bellingham(jobe|)and one other. dan neil from sunderland also looks good but they wont lose both stars in their midfield.

LW - we have summerville so need some cover for him

RW we have bowen guerherme and kudus who I suspect will be sold

striker - we have fullkrug always injured and 32 now. antonio and ings will leave in the summer pus on loan ferguson. if ferguson doesnt do well or too expensive then maybe hojland at man utd.

it really is down to sully and the board to decide our future for next season and beyond. get in some young players with potential such as bellingham and banzuzi to give us the legs in midfield

the question with rashford is will he keep it up or go into a sulk again !

hojlund the next one to flourish away from OT. hopefully with us but would cost 40-50m . fitter than ferguson and a willing runner.

Robert Sanchez
Kyle Walker-Peters
Ezechiel Banzuzi
Angel Gomes/Georgiy Sudokov
Evan Ferguson/Rasmus Hojlund/Liam Delap

GK: Sanchez
RCB: AWB
CB: Kilman
LCB:
RWB: KWP
LWB:
CM: Gomes/Sudakov
CM:
L10:
R10: Bowen
CF: Ferguson

Ahh I dunno, I give up. Summerville goes somewhere. Who plays LCB? Todibo? Aguerd? Do I even like the keeper or just sticking him in because he suits Potter? Is Paqueta gone? Is Kudus gone?

Feels like a waste of time even projecting it. Might as well just stick in Josh Brownhill and some other Championship free agent. Keep Soucek, JWP pencilled in, because I fully expect them to still be in the lineup. Gomes, Sudakov etc is living in a dream world.

Very easy to be pessimistic about us these days.

Cursed by big club focus. He was good for Brighton and I think he’d set the tone for us. Knows the manager, and would come here to a man who completely understands being chewed up by Chelsea.

Not that it’s essential it’s him, but I really hope we get a goalkeeper who knows how to play how Potter wants.

We don't need "names". Just the right players, being played in their best positions, and in tune with what the manager wants.

This isn't hard, however much the club tries to make it so.

I can see Emerson going in the summer if his best mate Paqueta goes too. Def links to Italian clubs over the last 12 months.

This could free up space in the squad for KWP on a free while not blocking Scarles' development and adding a small PSR profit too (his book value is down to £3-4m by the summer)

I originally thought we may be okay to bring in 2 central midfielders who didn’t necessarily have to be starters instantly, but as time has passed I really do believe at least 1 if not both need to be good enough to walk straight into the starting 11. So I’m not sure I’d go for someone like that Tyler Morton now. Banzuzi, maybe, although it’s quite jump from Belgian league to our one. Would this Dan Neil who we were linked to in January make the step up and work in a Potter midfield?

It’s why I’m leaning towards someone like Billy Gilmour for 1 of the 2, as at least he’s Premier League proven and for a side as good as what Brighton was at the time he played for them.

If it’s not Sanchez with regards to keepers, I don’t know who else we can realistically go for in the Premier League who is equally good with the ball at their feet, so may have to look abroad.

I noticed there were links to Meslier when Potter and Macauley were at Chelsea. But how concrete this link was I don’t know.

Just a year left on his contract, according to Transfermarkt. Although he’s made a few really bad mistakes this season when I’ve seen Leeds play.

He was piss poor at bloody Forest Green, so bad that they released a video of his "fails" on social media after he joined Chelsea.

Currently made the most errors than any other player in the league that has lead to an opposition goal.

I'm sure he knows how Potter wants to play, unfortunately he can't do it.

Next.

Yeah, probably, though people would say the same about Potter because of Chelsea.

Sometimes things feel so obvious that you have to just put it in.

Potter’s old keeper, uses his feet, will be available.

We will probably end up with him.

Kepa didn’t work out well for Chelsea and now he’s currently doing well at Bournemouth.

The Gooners let Martinez leave and he’s done okay at Villa.

Fab wasn’t quite good enough for Arsenal. Got the nickname ‘Flappyhandski’. Then went on to have a good spell at Swansea and then here.

Sometimes a change of environment can help a goalkeeper.

however its all pointless as the window is months off. we need a string finish to attract better players. if we finish 16th as opposed to 10th its a lot harder to get decent players to sign for us over brighton fulham brentford bournemouth. we are sadly behind them now in the queue.

only chance is to do our business early and quickly in the window; neither of these are we good at.
