Kiwi Club Football Shirt?

Post by jimmy666 »

Was interested to know if any southern hemisphere fans could shed any light on this shirt. I picked it up when they sold the family silver and closed Upton Park down, but can't really remember the details of it. I have got the CoA somewhere but just found it whilst tidying up and was trying to work out what to do with it, or if it would be collectible to anyone.
Thoughts would be appreciated...

That's a Football Kingz shirt from around 1999-2002. It's signed by Wynton Rufer, probably New Zealand's best ever player, and he played for them around this time. They stopped being a team effectively and became the New Zealand Knights, who played early in the A-League, but again aren't a team anymore. There are now two New Zealand teams in the A-League and the latest addition, Auckland FC, are nicknamed the black knights. I think Kingz were Auckland based, so maybe some linked history there, but not sure.

You might get more info from someone based in NZ, but I do work with football and have collected shirts over the years, so know a little bit. Whether that's enough for what you needed or not though.

That's brilliant - thanks for that, at least I know who has signed it now!

Now I have some detail, I can maybe see if it gets any interest in the new year if I whack it on eBay.

Cheers!
