2025/26 Benchmark Thread
Welcome to the new season Benchmark Thread.
Most of my optimism for the coming season evaporated soon after the second half kicked off on Saturday. However, I’m still hopeful that some of our young prospects will be given a chance in the coming weeks/months especially Callum Marshall whose progress I’ve followed since he joined the club.
We’re already in negative territory on the Benchmark but with a chance to wipe that out on Friday night against the supposed ‘World Champions’.
Enjoy the ride.
For the purpose of this season’s benchmark, Leeds United replace Leicester City, Burnley replace Ipswich Town and Sunderland replace Southampton.

Thanks CRFC - it would be hard NOT to make an improvement somewhere over the next 6 games. Er, you'd have thought...

Re: 2025/26 Benchmark Thread
Great thread.
It really goes to show how well Sunderland have done this season.Someone in their hierarchy has a brain by the looks of things.
They seem to have recruited a decent manager and some decent, good value, players. They seem to have a plan.

Re: 2025/26 Benchmark Thread
Am I reading that right, that with equivalent results to last season in the remaining fixtures, we are going to finish 16th, ahead of Sunderland? That's incredible.

Re: 2025/26 Benchmark Thread
thats mainly because the bottom three last year pretty much picked up no points in the second half of the season.Korea Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 10:28 am Am I reading that right, that with equivalent results to last season in the remaining fixtures, we are going to finish 16th, ahead of Sunderland? I'm more surprised that if we match our results we reach 38 points. I'd bit your arm off for that this season!

Re: 2025/26 Benchmark Thread
It is also quite telling that even if we had matched last season's points in the corresponding fixtures we wouldn't have been any higher up the table as we're seven points behind Forest and the results where we are worse off weren't against them or other teams around us. Shows that we were lucky last season that the bottom three were so poor, and our management team have been negligent in not improving the squad.

Sadly, that is relying on 2025/26 Sunderland having an equivalent set of remaining results to 2024/25 SouthamptonKorea Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 10:28 am Am I reading that right, that with equivalent results to last season in the remaining fixtures, we are going to finish 16th, ahead of Sunderland? Yes we do. Also an opportunity on Saturday as the corresponding fixture last season (Southampton) was 1-1
