West Ham Utd v Tottenham: match thread

Post by Up the Junction »

A nice, post-transfer window break until we reconvene for this one.

Key here may be adopting Bournemouth's approach of getting tight on João Palhinha and preventing him from making forward/progressive passes.

A vital component in the Premier League win against Man City (and in the Super Cup against PSG until he was replaced), the midfielder was snuffed out by AFC's consistent closing down/press. See below how infrequently he was allowed to pas the ball into more advances areas.

As a result, Spurs enjoyed just FIVE shots at goal (only ONE on target) against AFCB with an xG of just 0.19 which must've been some kind of record.

-------------Son of Herman------------
KWP-----Mavro------Kilman-----Diouf
----------------Magassa-----------------
---------Fernandes---Paqueta---------
Bowen-------------------------Summer
----------------Wilson-------------------

Might not work for this game, but we saw what pace (Summerville), passing and movement (Fernandes) and decent movement skill and shooting (Wilson) can do for us and all the players around us. I expect a loss, but want to see intensity. I expect Soucek to start over Magassa as well.

It's too soon for Summerville to start due to being out 8 months. Last thing we need is him crocked again.
Wilson the same I would have him coming on second half again for now.
Don't think Magassa will start, he is very young and was only on bench in France so maybe not ready yet.

I think Potter will play something like this.

Super subs to come on second half Summerville and Wilson for Guido and Fulkrug

-------------Herman------------
AWB-----Mavro------Kilman-----Diouf
------Soucek----Guido---Fernandes----
Bowen----------Fulkrug--------------Paqueta

big game and a cracking match to come back to after the international snorefests. I will be watching from a bar in Turkey so hopefully we win without me.

hermansen
KWP mavros kilman diouf
soucek fernandes magassa
bowen wilson paqueta

subs areola AWB todibo igor scarles potts JWP fullkrug summerville

fullkrug on after 60 mins when defence tiring.
potts on for magassa if tiring

Back to the Brady bowl of doom where we typically see 2 types of games. A low scoring, low action, dull flat snooze fest. Or a one sided thrashing by one of the big boys.

I don’t think Spurs are quite good enough to give us the type of thrashing that we see often over there, so I will do with the first option.

1-1 or 0-1 to Spurs with very little goal mouth action.

1st thing we have to do, is stop being turned over at home every match, our home record last season was frankly appalling , I'd settle for a draw now , although i'd love to smash this lot 4-0 .

Bournemouth showed they can be nullified.

They played quite a stodgy midfield against Bournemouth, no real creative midfield type in there, relying on Kudus and Odobert to provide the creativity and they were nullified entirely.

Kudus vs Diouf would worry me if we leave too much space in behind.
Also interesting to see if Potter throws Magassa straight in, I don't think he will.

But like to see

----------------Paq
Diouf---------------------Bowen
----Fernandes---Soucek
-------------Magassa
AWB---MK----Mav----KWP
-------------Mads

2-2

International breaks are crap.

I'd go with a midfield three of Guido, Paqueta, Fernandes.

I'd give Earthy and Summerville a half each on the left

Same team to start from Forest game. Introduce Jimmy, Wilson & Magassa 2nd half.

Perusing their thread on Kudus over on Flaccid Cock makes for interesting reading. Looks like the same Kudus issues still exist, and their fans have spotted it already.

Here's hoping he doesn't have his one good game in ten against us.

Same starting line up as Forest. Keep it compact and throw on Wilson/Summerville at the 60min mark.

This'll be my first live game this season. I reckon we will win 2-1.

Fernandes to score.

no way summerville starts after being out for 7 months

midfield of soucek magassa fernandes with paqueta floating on the left should give us a chance of having the midfield.

wilson to start with fullkrug on when the defence has tired a bit as he is a slow donkey.

decisions for potter
back 4 or a 3 - back 4 please
KWP or AWB - KWP played well so keeps the shirt
magassa debut ? yes otherwise JWP starts !
wilson or fullkrug to start. wilson for me. fully rested during int break.

Another reason why I miss Upton Park so much.Would have been hilarious seeing kudus playing on the wing in front of the Chicken Run.
