Sport and Ale pub in Buckingham

Post by mansfields1964 »

You are cordially invited to join me for a pint in The Mitre, Mitre Street, Buckingham MK18 1DW - Sky Sports, Setanta, all live West Ham matches whoever else is on . . ;o) Open at 5pm Mon-Thu and 12pm Fri Sat and Sun.

I bought this pub in August 2007 and a West Ham mirror went over the fireplace on opening day!

We keep Youngs Bitter (3.7) on most of the time as our session beer, and change the others around - currently Concrete Cow Brewery's Cock and Bull Story (4.1), brewed in Bradwell Abbey MK, and Greene King Abbot (5.0)

Coming soon Bateman's Valiant (pale gold, 4.5) Frog Island Fire-Bellied Toad (copper, 4.7) and Croak and Stagger (deep brown, 5.4)

We are aiming to have local beers where possible - Concrete Cow and Frog Island certainly count in that category. There's also Westons Organic Scrumpy on at the moment (7.3) not for the faint hearted . .

Oh and of course the usual Carlsberg, Fosters, Stella, Guinness and Strongbow.

Have now planted claret and blue flowers in my window boxes just to wind the locals up a bit.

Can't believe it, used to drink there as a 17 year old back in 1980, it was a popular pub with the younger crowd until we moved to the Barrel and then the Junction.

Good on you, got family in the town still so if I'm in I'll pop round for a pint. Thinking of popping over to watch BTFC sometime as I used to watch them before I could afford to go to Upton Park

The Mitre seems to have had the 'younger drinkers' reputation for decades! You may already know that the Barrel was made into a restaurant many years ago, first Italian and now Indian (the Fort) and the Junction has had the latest of its many refurbs and has a huge decking area out the back. I think you'll find the Mitre basically unchanged . .

So what are you doing in a place like this? I moved down here in '67 when Dad left Ford's to work at Wipac, on the Tesco site on the ring road. Been in the area ever since.
3 of us used to get the train from Bletchley to Euston and then the Underground, made the week day games bit of a trek, but it's good for the Midland games.

Have you been on the Buckingham Town FC web page? Bit quiet compared to this. Try http://www.bt-fc. co.uk

I moved around a lot since leaving East Ham in 1978, to Newbury, Ilford, Reading, Harpenden, and then saw this amazing cottage in Buckingham that we just had to live in . . the pub came much later. Decided never to move for work again.

It's a nice town, not quite big enough (yet) to have proper shops but MK's close enough.
