Galal Yafai looks the b*llocks.
Completely bossed his opponent tonight, who was no mug, in his 2nd pro outing.
He's on a very fast track as he's almost 30, which is well old for a flyweight, so expect to see him out a lot in the next 20 months

Katie Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano via split-decision to retain her WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles. Sensational!

What a fight..! Katie Taylor & Amanda Serrano were both warriors last night. I thought Katie was a gonner in the fifth but what a comeback from the Bray woman, both women showed skill, grit & determination from the first bell & the real winner in all this was women's boxing...
Best fight of the year so far for me

Re: Boxing thread
Don’t know how KT got through 5 and 6. Absolutely battered - was actually hard to watch.
I had her 5 and a half to 4 and a half the winner though (couldn’t separate the last round) but you’ve got to feel for Serrano - a draw would’ve been fitting.
Incredible athlete.
I hope they don’t do it again. They’re too evenly matched and neither is going down - someone’s going to end up getting really hurt. That probably sounds a patronizing but I don’t care.

Re: Boxing thread
Joshua says he's going for the knockout in rematch with Usyk.
He's going to have to. He tried boxing him and that didn't work.
Of course, fighting in a more aggressive nature will leave him more open to counters so he's also more likely to get stopped himself.
But that's probably the only chance he has.
I'm hoping he can pull it off as I'd still love to see Fury v Joshua one day.

Canelo Alvarez takes on Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight on Saturday. Anyone betting against him?

Re: Boxing thread
17 years ago today boxing fans witnessed not only a great fight but also one of its greatest comebacks during a fight.
I was working as a barman at a new Irish pub in Fresno and told everyone how I thought the fight would go, even picking the round it would end.
I got everything exactly right and was getting a lot of admiring glances - up until the final 30 seconds
Two years later, on the same date, Corrales died in a motorcycle crash in Vegas. He was going so fast his body was found over 100 yards from his bike.

Re: Boxing thread
Well it wasn't a close fight. Canelo got schooled by a bigger better boxer.
In the contract for a rematch so that'll probably happen in September when he was due to fight GGG for the third time.

Right result. Pleased for Bivol. Think he’s been underrated for a while.
Also pleased for my bank balance
Just seen the punch by round stats. Bivol outlanded Canelo in every round.

Good biggun beats good littlun. Alvarez finally bit off more than he could chew.
I gave Canelo 3 rounds at best. Was anticipating the robbery though.
Bivol is a talented boy. Great feet, fast hands. Real deal.

Of course this now means Craig Richards, of Crystal Palace, is better than Canelo

West Ham fan Mitchell Smith returns after a four year absence on May 21st. He was tipped for the top a few years back but things went a bit wrong. After prison his weight went up to 110kg. He's looking better now & hopefully we'll see a nice run from him over the next year or so. 15-1 record with 8 KOs

Re: Boxing thread
I like this new promoter on the British scene, Ben Shalom. He runs BOXXER & is signing up a load of young UK talent in addition to hosting the Brook Khan clash. He's got most of the Olympic boxers, including highly rated Ben Whittaker - who is managed by Anthony Joshua but trained by Fury's trainer, SugarHill Steward.
He's also signed up with Sky Sports now that Eddie has taken Matchroom to DAZN so has a big platform. Bloke's only 28 so fair play to him.
I remember when Frank Warren was the new kid on the scene ruffling the feathers of the British old school promoters. Then Barry Hearn came along with Bruno v Bugner & now HIS son is being challenged by some young upstart.
By the way, here's a little video of Ben Whittaker. He's from the same town as West Ham legend SAM ALLARDYCE His fighting style is little similar to a young Tyson Fury. Very herky jerky, lots of angles & footwork. Will be interesting to see how SugarHill changes his style. Look at the transformation Fury has had since moving with him.
