I just find Joyce slow and frustrating to watch. He needs some big fights fast. A Wilder or Parker or Whyte.Shabu wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 5:40 pm I love Joe Joyce. He's underrated in the ring (isn't that right Frank  ) as a boxer & underrated out of it as a funny bloke. Shame he turned pro so late but there you go.
Dubois will be around for a few years on the fringe. He's been groomed to be a heavyweight boxer by his dad from a young age. Not sure if he really has that fire. Maybe his sister does.

Just as I wrote that, Ben Shalom announced Parker has signed for BOXXER/Sky Sports.

To summarise this one, Dubois knocked out a flabby joke of a fighter in the local leisure centre. Bizarre.Shabu wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 7:38 pm South East Londons Danny Dubois travels to Miami this weekend to challenge for the WBA Heavy title (well, one of the many versions of it) when he challenges undefeated American Trevor Bryan 22(15)-0.
Dubois 17(16)-1 is a favourite in this but Bryan is undefeated so has that confidence.
This was for a version of the WBA title too… gives us all hope!

Whole set up looked an absolute joke. Made worse by 90 year old Don King shuffling about the place like a ghost at a funeral.PlaistowIron wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 9:49 am To summarise this one, Dubois knocked out a flabby joke of a fighter in the local leisure centre. Bizarre.

Might be quite smart business from Dubois' camp though. WBA have been told they have to sort out this super/regular champion nonsense or essentially be blackballed in the US. Last night's win could have just bought him a ticket to a big fight once the Usyk/AJ/Fury stuff shakes out.

Which is pretty amazing since he got shown up horribly by Joe Joyce not that long ago.Danny's Dyer Acting wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 11:00 am Whole set up looked an absolute joke. Made worse by 90 year old Don King shuffling about the place like a ghost at a funeral.

Re: Boxing thread
Allegedly invested a lot of money persuading Dubois to turn pro early so he wants to make sure he gets that investment back.
Will be interesting to see what's next. Danny is half a dozen or more years younger than most other heavyweights. He should be out four times a year, even if it's against B or C level opposition. Just get his name out there with lots of knockouts.
Assuming Fury fights the winner of Usyk Joshua II the main man belt won't be available to fight for for another year so he may as well keep in the public eye and make some money.

Re: Boxing thread
I'd LOVE to see Dillian Whyte v Daniel Dubois.
Would lean towards Danny as Whyte has been stopped in 2 of his last 3 & hasn't beaten anyone born after 1980 in a few years. But maybe it's a step too far at the moment.

Re: Boxing thread
Good digs by both Dubois and Riakphore, plus a decent debut for the Welsh lass, but **** me if ever a sport needed a slap in the face.

Well, good for him. He looks better for it and I’m sure he feels better for it too.

So Fury’s retirement lasted about as long as expected: Tyson Fury says he will '100%' return to boxing ring at some point
Fury vs Dubois anybody?

Or even just v AJ if Joshua loses again but in a much better performance.
There's really no one else of note in the heavyweight division right now. I'm not really interested in him v Dubois just yet. Maybe Joyce but he could just box rings around him.
The Croatian bloke I had high expectations of, Filip Hrgovic, hasn't progressed the way I thought he would & his team has pulled him out of (or not responded to) a couple of high profile fights. He looks the business & he''s a big c*nt but seems content to fight at a lower level.

Re: Boxing thread
Potentially brilliant fight happening this Saturday in a Light Heavy unification bout between Artur Beterbiev 17(17)-0 of Canada (originally from Russia) & Joe Smith of Long Island, New York who is 28(22)-3(1).
Beterbiev was on the deck against big punching British fighter, Callum Johnson, but got up to stop him. He's stopped everyone he's fought.
Smith ended the career of Bernard Hopkins & plays up his everyman, working class hero image. He does come across as a nice chap, as does Beterbiev. Smith was stopped while still aged about 20 then went on a great run before losing on points to Sullivan Barrera & Dimitri Bivol (who beat Canelo). He's unbeaten in his last four fights.
The Russian is a favourite here but it wouldn't surprise me if Smith pulled off an upset.

Joe Joyce to fight Christian Hammer at Wembley Arena in July. Shouldn’t be a problem for Joyce.
