Re: Boxing thread
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara this weekend for the WBA Feather title.
This could be a proper f*cking war. Woods last fight was a mental war against Irish superstar Michael Conlan. Before that he won the interim title against China's Can Xu. Both ended in the 12th by KO.
Before that he was drifting towards an average (nothing wrong with that) British level career but a switch to Ben Davidson seem to revitalise his career.
Lara is 8 years younger at 24 but turned pro at 16 in true Mexican style. He lost his debut on points then was stopped in 50 seconds in his 12th bout but since then has reeled off 14 wins (12 KOs) with a NC in the rematch against Josh Warrington - who he battered in their first bout.
I have to lean towards Lara in this. He's getting stronger all the time. I hope I'm wrong & Woods wins to set up a big Nottingham v Leeds bout v Warrington (which will probably still happen if he loses). Either way, it WILL be exciting.

Re: Boxing thread
The WBO have ordered Josh Taylor to fight New Yorks Teo Lopez for its Light Welter title.
Not sure where this leaves Jack Catterall. He was supposed to rematch Taylor but the Scot withdrew with Plantar Fajitas.
Regis Prograis - who lost a very close fight to Taylor - is WBC Champ.
The vacant IBF belt is being contested by Argie Meremias Ponce & massive punching Puerto Rican Subriel Matias later this month.
Dominican Alberto Puello holds the WBA belt.
Jack is left out in the cold.

Re: Boxing thread
Gary Cully looks to be a proper fighter. Just scored his 10th ko in 16th fights but he's stopped his last five opponents & looking to have a good year.
Be nice for another special fighter from Ireland to break through.
Lightweight division very tough though.

Re: Boxing thread
At the time I thought it was right, when I watched the replays I think they’ll feel remorse for throwing it in

He was unsteady but came through worse against Conlan last fight.
On the other hand Lara is a massive puncher. And he does have a rematch Claus

Re: Boxing thread
Liam Smith 33(20)-3-1 has been made mandatory for WBO Champ Janibek Alimkhanuly 13(8)-0. The Kazakh fighter has faced Londoners in his last two bouts, easily blowing out Danny Dignum in 2 then having a tougher than expected battle with Denzel Bentley, points.
Smith was WBO Champ at Light Middle until he lost to Canelo back in 2016.
The problem is that Smith is contractually obliged to rematch Eubank Jr next.
Not sure what happens next. I don't even know if people will be that interested in the rematch.

Re: Boxing thread
Conor Benn has been cleared by the WBC who found no evidence of him doping.
The BBBoC say that doesn't affect their own investigation.

Tommy really has it all to lose, even if he wins, to get credit it needs to be a decisive knock out.Morocco Mole wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 7:32 am I actually quite like Jake Paul. Proper wind-up the fella.
Anyone that Jake Paul will win?

Part of me hopes Paul gets taught a proper boxing lesson, the other part of me wants him to spark love island out cold.

Re: Boxing thread
Not entirely sure how it would be possible to follow this so called ‘script’. Equally wouldn’t surprise me if it was bent with a preordained outcome.
