Re: Boxing thread
Last weekend we had two fantastic bouts one with a HUGE upset that sent shockwaves through boxings deepest division (Lightweight).
This weekend we have two more top quality Lightweight bouts involving fighters with a combined 105-2-2 record.
On Saturday in Vegas Eddie Hearns' fighter Devin Haney defends his WBC belt against Jo Jo Diaz A very good Mexican American from LA whose only loss was on points to the excellent Gary Russell (who's only loss in 12 years of boxing was to Lomachenko). Diaz was a champ at Super Feather but had problems with the weight. He's a good all round boxer, decent punch who says he's reinvigorated at the higher weight.
Haney is very skilled, poised, a good all rounder who can whack when he sits on his punches. He's one of this crowd whose dad has been training him for this since he was a kid, even moving him from San Francisco to Vegas as a teen for better sparring.
I'm predicting a Haney UD but Diaz is a live underdog. The winner of this bout almost certainly meets George Kambosos next Spring.
The following night in LA Gervonta Tank Davis meets very tough Mexican Isaac Cruz. Cruz is a little brick wall just moving forward & hitting you all over. He's not the fastest or the biggest punching but he's going to not let you breathe & will be in your face the whole bout.
Unfortunately for him he's meeting an man who is very fast & has a great punch in Davis whose record is 25(24)-0 & has stopped his last 16 opponents while wining titles at Super Feather, Lightweight & Light Welterweight.
This could be a war but I think Davis will have too much for him & stops Cruz sometime around the 6th round.
Both fighters I've picked to lose have plenty of people picking them to win though.

I like Bradley but he fell apart a few years ago. Went from possible contender to shot seemingly overnight.
Now I've said that he'll put in a world class performance tomorrow
There's also a decent Euro Lightmiddle fight involving Kerman Lejarraga, who stopped Skeete but lost twice to Avanesyan. He defends against Jack Flatley.

Dennis McCann is a bit cocky for someone with 10 fights against journeyman boxers.

Re: Boxing thread
My apologies Anthony Yarde, I completely forgot you were fighting this weekend.
Here's the final round. This is the way Yarde SHOULD be fighting. Don't know if Cook is making that much of a difference yet but Tunde himself ain't good enough.
In the interviews I watched afterwards Yarde mentions his picture being at the West Ham stadium & how proud he was of it.

Re: Boxing thread
A few fights this weekend.
On Friday in South London Isaac Chamberlain of Brixton meets Dilan Prasovic in a Cruiserweight bout. Each fighter has one defeat & that was to Lawrence Okolie. Isaac has plenty of skills but lacks a bit of oomph, if you know what I mean.
There's a good bill in the UAE featuring a load of British & Irish fighters as well as a few decent Filipinos. Sunny Edwards defends his IBF Fl title on it.
Up in Liverpool Conor Benn fights Chris Algieri in what is a decent test although might not be a great fight. Katie Taylor defends her title against a hot girl (sorry if that offends anyone ) & there's a pretty good undercard on there too.
Nonito Donaire defends his Bantam title in LA. Against a young undefeated big punching Filipino who was only 4 or 5 when he turned pro. When Donaire turned pro. The other bloke didn't turn pro at 4 or 5. On the undecard is a fighter I've been watching for a couple of years now, Brandun Lee, half Mexican & half Korean with a 23(21)-0 record. 22 year old who fights at Light Welter.
Up in New York Lomachenko meets Richard Commey in a good bout that's flown under the radar because Commey got battered in 2 by Teo Lopez. Commey is a good fighter with a great punch on him but Loma should have too much. America's best Heavyweight prospect fights on the undercard. Jared Anderson is 22 with a record of 10(10)-0 & he's being moved fairly rapidly. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Looks like that shoulder operation did the business. Hopefully we'll see his full potential now.Metal Hammer wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:59 pm The body shot he landed to win in the first round had plenty of oomph

Really like Connor Benn and his old man is one of my idols. But why’s he even doing it? Certainly doesn’t have to. Admits it himself and yet hes got this ferocious innate desire to prove something to someone.
It’s quite unique. I love it.

Re: Boxing thread
Another good performance from Benn. He's been really impressive this year.
The good news for him is that the excellent Crawford & very good Spence are nearing the end of their careers.
The bad news is called Ennis & Ortiz.
I know they're calling out Broner because he's a name in America but a better step up would be David Avanesyan or Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

Broner doesn’t fight outside the States, Benn doesn’t fight outside the U.K. Never the twain shall meet!
P.S. That video is not available in the U.K.

Sorry Mate. I have the opposite issue a lot when trying to watch West Ham highlights.York Ham(mer) wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 6:23 pm Broner doesn’t fight outside the States, Benn doesn’t fight outside the U.K. Never the twain shall meet!

Benn will fight in the US. There just hasn't been the market for it yet. Now he's after opponents in the top 20 it'll be beneficial to him (and more importantly Eddie Hearn) if he becomes a bit of a name in the US, where the Lightweight to Light-Middleweight divisions are hot.
As for Broner, he may not even be allowed in the UK given his recent legal woes. I know he's a name but I'm not that interested in watching him fight anyone. He's only won two fights in almost SIX years & one was a split (lucky) decision over Adrian Granados - who recently lost widely to Benn - and the other to an untested Puerto Rican who got stopped in his following bout. He's been all mouth & no trousers since the Maidana loss. Which was 8 years ago today. And a beautiful thing to watch
