It also explains why he paid for a beard transplant etc a couple of years ago, then after spending probably good money, shaved it all off, no hair, then you can't test the folicies either, I think is showing how bad juicing is in boxing, Hearn and Benn are going to such lengths to say they didn't do it, god knows what Joshua etc and others are, probably lots of brown envelopes, threats and of course the classic, training in Dubai or other places so you can't be tested.

Re: Boxing thread
There was a journeyman British heavyweight boxer about 5-10 years back who tested positive & he said that 90% of boxers are at it.
Whether that's true or just in his gym I don't know but he had no reason to fib, he'd already been banned.
Fury, Canelo, Whyte & many others all failed tests but if there's enough money in it you can muddy the waters & get away with it.
I don't know what the answer is. Well, I know what one answer is. One governing body worldwide so if someone is caught they can't just f*ck off & fight for a rival board. One drug test company. Then, if someone IS caught they are dealt with & the next boxer knows what will happen to him or her.
And here's an ironic twist, there are a lot less severe injuries & deaths in boxing in recent decades due to safety measure being brought in despite the rise in PEDs.

Re: Boxing thread
Haven't watched it yet but Loma had a reasonably tough fight, although a win, tonight.
The Lightweight division is probably the toughest in boxing & Loma is 35 soon. Another young lion just joined the top ten tonight as Zepeda outclassed Jojo Diaz. Stevenson has moved up & might be the best of them all. It's a fantastic division of all shapes & sizes.
I just hope Tank v Garcia happens in January.

I suppose the difference is that footballers are not trying to render their opponents unconscious. Well, maybe a few....
There might come a day when PEDs are allowed in team sports which will the richer clubs another advantage as they'll have better access to better doctors & drugs.

I would love to see the full details of Real Madrid's pre-season supplementation programme as I once heard it called.

They used to use the same doctor and Barcelona and Nadal. Wada asked to see his records but the Spanish Govt. would not support the request.

Or Bayern during covid was hilarious, every player come back absolutely yoked, obviously knowing they couldn't be tested, Goretzka went from tall skinny to this absolute beast of a man

Re: Boxing thread
Cracking bill in the Middle East this Saturday.
Topping the bill is Dmitrii Bivol v Zurdo Ramirez. Ramirez was a long time Super Middleweight champ but moved up about 4 years ago. I was at his Light Heavy debut in LA in 2019 on the undercard of Loma v Crolla.
Ramirez is a very good all round fighter with a decent dig but Bivol is a big favourite due to the way he easily handled Canelo. Canelo didn't look too good in his next bout though so maybe that win has been over rated? We'll find out on Saturday. My prediction is that the more 'boring' (ie technical) the fight, the better for Bivol.
On the undercard, those of us over 45 should remember Pat "The Black Flash" Barrett a murderous puncher from Manchester who just fell short at World level. His nephew, who he trains, gets a shot at the IBF Super Feather title that was stripped from Joe Cordina. He's up against it though against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, a very good fighter from Tajikistan who fought a draw in a shot at this belt last year.
A very good female fight between American Jessica McCaskill (who's a financial analyst from Chicago) & Chantelle Cameron from Northampton. Both good champions.
Two of the Yafal brothers fight on the undercard & Campbell Hatton will be fed more biscuits.

The better the opposition, the better Bivol fights.
We really need to see him against Beterbiev...

I agree but I think canelo will push for a rematch and by the time the beterbiev fight comes about he’ll be touching 40

Re: Boxing thread
Canelo just had an op so is probably out til September next year (I might be wrong but I thought I read that the other day). Plenty of time for a mega fight with Beterbiev.Hammer Matty wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 9:27 am I agree but I think canelo will push for a rematch and by the time the beterbiev fight comes about he’ll be touching 40
I think that Yarde & Buatsi are both mandatory for belts at light heavy but they can fight other other on the undercard. Won't happen but I can dream.

Re: Boxing thread
Just cancelled my DAZN subscription as it was going up from $99 a year to $150. Pure f*cking greed.
Everyone's struggling at the moment except Eddie who's moving his boxing over to the Middle East for mega money while having his platform up subscriptions by 50%.
It almost feels like he has just got to the stage where Allegedly was 20 years ago. Just rip everyone off.
And Allegedly was the good guy 40 years ago when he was challenging the old school off Micky Duff to bring proper fights to the public.
Each promoter seems to go through this cycle. Challenge the establishment, put on good fights, become number one then rip us off.
Ben Shalom will be the next one along. He's doing good things now. 15 years from now he'll be Eddie/Allegedly/Duff.

Re: Boxing thread
British Light Heavyweight Callum Johnson has announced his retirement.
He had a record of 20(14)-1(1) & held the British & Commonwealth titles & challenged for the IBF title against Beterbiev, dropping him before getting stopped in 4.
Earlier this year he was due to challenge Joe Smith for the WBO title but had to pull out after he caught covid. The irony here is that he was an anti masker & thought covid was a hoax.
Murderous puncher in the ring but he had a few issues outside of it & I don't think we saw his full potential.

Re: Boxing thread
Ricky Hatton v Marco Antonio Barrera tomorrow.
Two of my all time favourites.
I hope Barrera doesn't think he's going to find any decent Mexican food in Manchester

Re: Boxing thread
Decent card tonight.
Tasha Jonas with another great performance, picking up a third world title in three fights.
Hatton vs Barerra was a good exhibition, nothing serious, but 2 greats having one last hurrah for a good cause.
