The bloke Smith fought was the one who destroyed Sam Eggington in 2 a couple of years back.PlaistowIron wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 11:43 pm Jonas was fantastic. Really pleased for her. Up 3 weight classes and still looks powerful. Unified world champion at the age of 38.
Some odd endings to other fights on the card though, the opponents of both Frazer Clarke and Liam Smith just seem to quit.

Yep - really bizarre.
Apparently Smith had really roughed him up in sparring a few years back and he quit back then too.
Big womens fight next weekend - Marshall vs Shields. Praying Marshall absolutely batters her, but think this one is going to be tight.

Re: Boxing thread
Potentiality good heavyweight bout in LA tonight between Andy Ruiz, conqueror of Anthony Joshua, and Luis Ortiz, who's very good but possibly almost 50 (I think officially 41).
Both fast hands and can box and bang.
Really good undercard too.

Re: Boxing thread
Ruiz wins on points, the difference being the 3 x knockdowns he scored.
Ruiz is another one in the mix with the Wilders, Whytes, Joyce’s and Parker’s. I suppose Joshua too. All these guys need to be fighting each other now. Some potentially great matchups amongst that lot.

Re: Boxing thread
Not sure what is most amazing, that Ruiz there is meant to be the slimmed-down version or the speed of his hands.

Tyson Fury has offered Anthony Joshua a chance to fight him for the WBC title fight in the next few months.

Re: Boxing thread
Here's Fury.
I'd love for it to happen. Would still be very exciting for me. The two best British heavyweights of the generation.
Dunno if Hearn would want let it happen though. And Fury is with Arum & Allegedly. And there's the DAZN v ESPN thing to sort out.
But it's been done before.

Re: Boxing thread
Hearn has said they want Dec 10th or 17th. Frank Warren wants November.
Loads of things to iron out before we get anywhere the ring.

Re: Boxing thread
All female boxing bill this weekend at the O2.
Top of the card is American Claressa Shields against Hartlepools Savannah Marshall.
Shields is a fantastic boxer who complied an amateur record of 64 wins & 1 loss & is undefeated in 12 as a pro, barely losing a round. She also won Gold at London & Rio Olympics as well as several other major tournaments.
Her only loss as an amateur was to.........
Savannah Marshall back in 2012 (prior to the Olympics). Marshalls amateur career wasn't as stella as Shields but her style is much more suited to the pros & she's stopped 10 of 12 opponents. This bout is for the undisputed Middleweight title. I think Shields wins handily although I'd love for Marshall to pull out a devastating stoppage of the American.
Also for the undisputed Super-featherweight title is Alycia Baumgardner, 12-1, against Mikaela Mayer, 17-0.
Caroline Dubois fights on the undercard along with 7 other all female bouts.
This is on Sky.

I thought Shields looked very pedestrian last time out.Shabu wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 4:26 pm

Can't see her hurting Marshall either.
Fancy Marshall to stop Shields

I don't care much for women's boxing, but would love to see Marshall give Shields a pasting

To be fair, she did win every round against an undefeated opponent with a decent dig.White Goodman wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 1:12 pm I thought Shields looked very pedestrian last time out.
