The only goal of the game came in the 25th minute as Brighton caught West Ham on the counter; a deep cross from the right saw a totally unmarked Murray head home for a fourth successive match against the Hammers.
West Ham went on to waste a succession of good chances, none more so than when Fabian Balbuena failed to find the target from six yards with an unchallenged header.
The Hammers drop to 15th in the Premier League as a result, three places and a point behind Albion who rise to 12th following tonight's victory.

West Ham's four-game unbeaten run came to a disappointing end as Glenn Murray's early goal was enough to condemn Manuel Pellegrini's side to their first defeat in five games.
Brighton, who had previously won just once in the Premier League this season recorded their first clean sheet of the campaign on a night when the Hammers never truly threatened Mat Ryan's goal, despite dominating possession.Embed from Getty Images
